WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT WITHDRAWL(withdrawal) WISE AND HOW LONG???

My wife and I are new to this forum, and after reading some of the other ques. and answ. it seems VERY interesting.  My wife and I have been wanting to quit prescr. drugs for a long time now..and this week we'v hit rock bottom.  We have done pres. drugs (Tylox,Vics,Perks, etc.) her for 5 yrs. me for about 2 yrs. We can easily go through 40+ tylox a DAY between the two of us. (snorting). Thousands of dollars spent just to feed the addiction.  We have tried several times to ween off, even c/t.  The first 2 days are the worst...we are in agony, lethargic, ANGRY, and just hating the world.  That's about as far as we can get...does it get better..??  How long will this last???  What can help offset the disconfort..are there homeremedies?? any help would be great!!!  Thank you for taking the time to read this!! we look foreward to ANY and ALL responses!!!

Like I just posted to someone else, I'll tell you my story and I know you can do it c/t.  But it's best to take a vacation week so you can stay in bed for a week.  It didn't start getting better for me until day 11.  My problem is that I am an oxy addict and today is day 12 cold turkey. I was taking 480 mgs of oxy a day, sometimes more, for over two years. Sometimes I would go on a binge and take 16 80 mg tabs a day and I'm a small woman.  At the same time I was taking 120 10/325 hydrocodones a month for the breakthru pain. Well last month around this time I didn't get the hydrocodone refilled because the tylenol is so bad for the liver. But because I was always so stoned on the oxy, I didn't have any problems missing the hydrocodone. So then I decided to go cold turkey on the oxy. I had horrible withdrawals but I can tell you it does get better. I had diahreah and vomiting and I was so weak I had to stay in bed a whole week. I couldn't sleep, I just felt awful. But yesterday, day 11 was a great day. I felt somewhat energetic and actually drove my vehicle. I slept 5 hrs last night and I had only been getting 2 if I was lucky. Today was another great day. My appetite has returned and I can't believe the energy I have. If you can get past day 5 or 6, you'll make it and you can get thru it, and it will be so worth it. Have immodium on hand, slimfast drinks, peptobismol tabs, tylenol pm and if I can think of something else, I'll let you know.

One more thought.  I have never tried it becuase I just learned of it, but you might do a quick search on Kratom and consider using a bit of it when quit day comes.  I have read that it helps with the W/D because it is a natural pain reliever.

You and your wife CAN get through it, but it is tough, no doubt about that.  Like advised above, do take the time off from work, family etc... for a week if possible.  Benzos will help with sleep.  Try to get some Valium or something like that before you try.  Set a date, get prepared.  Take ALOT of hot baths.  I just kept the water in the tub because I was in it every hour and just added straight hot water.  Icy/Hot works well for the thighs and upper arms when the cramps start.  I dont think I could have made it this far without it.  Keep your chin up and best of luck to you both.

I hope you and your partner can get through this. Just be careful with the valium as you can be addicted after 7 days apparantly. I don't recommend valium at all after what I have been through (and still going through). Maybe a prescription sleeping tablet might do the trick so you can get some sleep??
