Want to safely ween off zoloft

Want to safely ween off zoloft

Hi.  I'm on day 29 of suboxone/percocet freedom!  Hooray!  Anyway, I'm also on 100 mg a day of zoloft.  I'd really like to ween myself down from this as well.  Does anyone out there have any advice - on either if this is a good idea and/or a tapering method.  Thanks all!

Are you off of sub too? If so that's great, and about zoloft, I know some antidepressants (like effexor), you have to ween off on but I don't think so w zoloft. I have taken it for years and stopped with out any problem before. A shrink might tell you to taper. all the best

Yes - I tapered and had really crappy withdrawals from the suboxone for about 2 weeks.  Started to feel better after those 14 days.  I just want to try and get off all substances, if I can.  I cut my dose to 50 mg today of the zoloft and will take that amount for the next 2 - 3 weeks, and then cut it down to 25 mg for the same time frame.  Then I may try to stop all together after that.  We'll see.  Thanks for the response!

Tapering the zoloft would be good and you could even take one every other day.  When I went off it I only experienced some dizziness when I bent over or stood up to fast. No big problems.

However...dont go off the zoloft just to be chemical free.  If you went on the zoloft for depression and its working for you give it some more time.  There is a big difference between narcotics and antidepressents.  Unless your depression is situational you might need the medication the same way a diabetic needs insulin.  Of course I dont know your situation but I hope you arent clumping all meds together in the bad pile.  If your depression comes back it would just set you up to relapse.  So be careful.

Thanks for the advice.  No - I've been on zoloft through my addiction.  It's just that I can't stand having such a low sex drive - of course maybe that has more to do with my age than the meds.....  I may ween down to a certain amount and just stay on it.  I'm going to talk with a physician today to see what her advice is.  Thanks for the warning - I do believe antidepressants are great for folks that really need them.  And who knows - maybe I will need to be on it for life.  Thanks again!
