Wanting off Subs SOOO bad

I know this question has probaly been asked 1000x, but I have been on suboxone for almost 4 yrs and I REALLY want off. My insurance has stopped and I can't afford it. Not only that, I'm so tired of that life. I have 3 beautiful kids....4, 2, & 5 mths and I just want my old life back. I've detoxed off oxys before, but I've heard some say that subs is worse. Please give me any advice that you have. I want to be able to be a good mother to my kids w/ out ANY opiates!!!

I REALLY appreciate everyone's comments!!! The only problem is that I really can't afford to keep buying the subs. I was only on them for so long b/c I had insurance and only paid $3.00 for my whole script. Man, I wish I wouldn't have stayed on them that long! :( Has anyone tried the Thomas Recipe while coming off subs? I have been taking 2 mg maybe 2-3 hrs after I wake up and then the other 2 mg around 5 p.m. I haven't really experienced any wds except a VERY MILD backache.

Carriekeegan: I took subs thru 2 of my pregnancies. And yes, they definitely took away the wds from the oxys, but I think I may have just let myself detox from the oxys and never have gotten on the subs b/c from alot of the research I've done about kicking the subs, it seems like the wds are just as bad and they last longer. I can remember detoxing off the oxys and if I could make it 4 days, by the 5th, I would start feeling ALOT better! Seems like alot of ppl have stated it takes an average of 2 wks to start feeling somewhat normal coming off the subs. The way I look at it, most docs won't give you the subs unless you are in some kind of wd, so why not stick it out? Or if you do get on the subs, as soon as you have your baby, try to GET OFF!! Please don't stay on them as long as I have!!

I was on sub for about 5months, started at 8mgs and tapered down to a tiny little crumb (.25mgs) before I finally jumped off. Now Ive been through w/d's from alot of opiates, mainly oxycontin and methadone, to me suboxone wasnt quite as bad as the others. It was still very challenging, especially the mental parts of withdrawal, just not quite as intense. When I got down under 1mg/daily I only felt okay for about half of the day, I spent most evenings feeling kind of lousy. So Im not sure of how my experience would have differed had I quit around 1mg, as opposed to continuing down to the lower dose. My advice is to try and get as low as possible before you quit, its not easy but hopefully it will lessen the w/d symptoms. The last and most important thing is to seek some sort of aftercare to help you stay clean. I wish you all the best, take care.

Did you take Suboxone through your pregnancies? Did it keep you from going through w/d from the oxys? Sorry, I am pregnant and debating weather to do the suboxone or not.

They say that if you do a long slow tapper it can be pretty painless. Can you ask your doctor to give you some Clonodine. It's a blood pressure med that helps a lot with withdrawal.
I'm in the process of tapering myself. I was down to a crumb but had some bad pain issues and went back up. grrrrrrrr  Now I have to do it all over again.

I was on 12 mg for about the last year. About 3 wks ago, I cut down to 8 mg and for the last 2 days, I have been taking 4 mg. I actually got on the subs to get off oxys and if would've known then what I know now..........I would've NEVER gotten on subs. I've detoxed from oxys before, but as an addict, I relapsed and I didn't want to go thru the painful w/d again, so I got on subs. That was almost 4 yrs ago. I don't have any other conditions. Congrats to you for getting off subs!! I so want to be where you are, but I know it takes one day at a time. Like I said, w/ 3 kids, its SO hard to w/d b/c they don't understand, nor would I expect them to. How long b4 you started to feel a little better?? What were you taking (mg)? Did you taper or CT? I was thinking about trying the Thomas recipe. The biggest thing for me to deal when going thru w/d is the anxiety, insomnia, and that paranoid feeling. By the way, thank you so much for replying to my post!! I REALLY appreciate it!!

Sub can be gotten off of, it would help if you could provide some more info. like how much you are taking and if you are taking it for pain, or to get off other pain meds. Im 30 days clean off of sub today so it can be done and im not the only one on here that has gotten off it. Good luke too you and keep us updated and post, post, and post. You will get lots of love support and prayers. outotown aka Aaron
