Watson 503

I need a little bit of info from any body that can help me. See, my boyfriend has been taking these pills with "Watson 503" on them. He's never been really honest with me about what they were exactly so I did a little bit of research about them on the web and found out that they are a type of hydrocodone. But I'm not exactly sure how potent these things are. Are they some on the strongest you can get or what? My boyfriend seems to be taking them all the time. Usually like a half or a whole every couple of hours. It really doesn't seem to effect his behavior but I know he talks sometimes about not being able to sleep at all and he seems to have a stomach ache all the time. Does he have a problem or am I being paranoid? Anyone with some insight will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Your boyfriend is on the same exact road I was. I'm on day 5 clean and sober but honestly it has to be a personal choice. These pills are highly mentally addictive. You come to depend on the good feeling that comes with them so much that you don't do much in life without popping a half a pill first. I would wake up in the morning and dig around in my purse next to the bed for them. Break one I half, take it, go get my coffee, come back and lay in bed on my ipad until it kicked in. Then I would start my day. The rest of the day went like that as well. I realized that it was getting out of control and that I had no idea how many I was really taking anymore (would just pop one when I didn't feel the effects anymore. Which is scary because that's how overdoses happen since you build up a tolerance).

Addiction gets worse over time, it's a long and slippery  road. He has to decide that he's had enough and really wants to be done. Not because of you knowing he's addicted and making him feel guilty,, or because he's run out, but because he really wants to be clean.  Otherwise most likely he will not stay clean if he has access to them- he will just start to hide it and be in bigger denial.

I know it's hard and I cannot imagine being the one watching it happen to someone you love, my boyfriend never said anything to me although I'm sure he knew. There are some changes in behavior after long term use, you get irritable easier, you usually don't take one late at night as its a "waste of half a pill" since your going to bed soon ( but then you have trouble getting to sleep and aren't intersted in sex as your moody), stomach pains, impulsive behavior in buying things or doing new activities with vigor. There is a lot of advice on here and the people seem to be very supportive.

I hope it all works out for you!

I have been taking lorcet 10/650 for pain for the past 4 years. I'm prescribed 3 per day but I take only 2. I take them close to bedtime so I can get 8 hrs of good sleep. During the day I do not take any. But let me tell you my desire to take more is not there but I know if I stop taking them I'll have withdrawals. So yes you can say I'm addicted to them but with control . My doctor checks my blood every 6 months for liver damage and other effects so far my body has tolerated the dosage. To me is a wonderful drug that kills the pain I have specially my legs. But mind you this drug is the number one drug for overdose and addiction.  So take with care.

You can really look at hydrocodone like heroin. They are both opiates and both provide a feeling of 'wellness' at the lower end or 'euphoria' on the higher end - depending on the amount/dosage taken. Both are highly addicting.

If he is taking a half or a whole of one every couple of hours every day: he's addicted. But he may not even know it (as is how addictions develop).

I would be concerned. Read enough of the posts by people here and you'll find out how awful and insidious these opiate drugs are.

I respectfully disagaree with SunnyOne.  As far as the the hydrocodone is concerned, your boyfriend is taking the STRONGEST Schedule III pain medication in America.  There is NOT a 15 mg hydro that is made (other than compounds, which some pharms will make - the legitimacy is questionable, however).  MANY people prefer to take what your boyfriend is taking over oxycodone because one can obtain up to two refills on hydrocodone, as opposed to oxy - which you need a fresh, new script each time.  If he's taking these things like popcorn, he is indeed, addicted.

Hydeocodone is a class A schedule III, meaning it has( not written by me) (A) The drug or other substance has a potential for abuse less than the drugs or other substances in schedules I and II.
(B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) Abuse of the drug or other substance may lead to moderate or low physical dependence or high psychological dependence

Sunny ~ Im not sure if hydro comes in 15mgs or not,  the info you gave "They come in multiple of ac strength 10/325" is correct, BUT a 10/325 tab is 10mg hydro and 325 acetiminaphine (sp) tylenol. I've never heard of or seen a 15mg hydro.  I take a compound which is specially made by a pharmacy and it is 30mg hydro, it is time released.  Im not positive, but I think that anything above 10mg is a compound and has to be specially made by a pharmacy and is a different "schedule" of drug.  I believe that regular hydro 5mg, 7.5, and 10mg and most other opiates are a schedule II drug but the compounds are a schedule III, this info could be vice versa, with reg opiates being schedule III and compounds being schedule II.  I bet a nurse on here could verify that info. But anyways the first number is the mg of hydro (opiate) the second number is the amount of tylenol or acetiminaphine. Just FYI ~ peace :)

Hi,

I am on my second day of tapering because of these pills. They are phsyically and really mentally addictive.  I start on only a coulple a day and went to as many as I could get. You really need to ask him about them if you are close to him.  Tell him to stop if he can. Or he will be where I am at. Trying to get rid of the habbit after ruining my savings account, and my life.

As far as I know, yest 10 mg is the highest, but goes up to 10/650.  I'm not sure I understand your misunderstanding.

Hi Lacey.  I'm glad you found us.  A lot of wives, husbands, moms & relationship people come here for information.

Most of us are in recovery, and some detoxing, some thinking about it, then like yourself, in a relationship w/someone that is using.

I used his exact drug.  I fell in love w/it for 6 years, and nothing would stop me but myself.

Do you feel comfortable enough to ask him why he takes it, how many a day & for how long has it been.  If he seems to evade, then he doesn't want to discuss it w/you.  But obviously doesn't hide taking them in front of you.

I'm glad you came here.  You will get a great education on addiction.  A lot of people fall into this trap.  And we're not tramps or hoods either.  We're ordinary people that made a big mistake and fixed ourselves.  We all love each other.  Welcome!

wow im surprise some of you say its not a strong opiate, lol. In My Opinion, hydrocodone seems to be the #1 addicting pill. How many of us have been addicted to the hydo?? it seems like 75% of us here (myself included) had a problem with hydrocodone.

I agree he has a problem. He realizes that on some level or he would be upfront with you as to what they are and why he is taking them. They help you sleep but are not perscribed for that...pretty much just for pain and sometimes liquid for cough. Addiction is a progressive disease and usually the user lies and denies he has a problem. I would read many of the posts that you will find here, learn as much about addiction as you can then confront him with knowlege and concern. He will probably convince you its no big deal but be cautious of this. The amount is low but it will grow fast and he will be unable to control it eventually. You wouldn't be able to tell a change in his behavior that's real obvious. He may be constipated and have small pupils. Best of luck, Corey

Sorry, but it sounds like he has an addiction problem. Even if these pills were prescribed to him, it sounds like he's abuseing them...which means addiction. No they are not the strongest opiate out there but they're still an opiate.
So, Yes, I'd say he has a problem. Maybe not real bad yet, but he is on the road to it.
