Weaning off percs.

Weaning off percs.

hello Ya'll, i have been weaning myself off of percs, because i went 3 days with horribile withdrawals and on the 3rd day i relasped. i was taking around 10-12 a day... i started by cutting my dose down to 6 a day.. i did that for a couple days and relized that was still to many to be taking , so i dropped down to taking 4 a day.. 1 every 4 hours, i am starting to feel the withdrawals, but nothing near going cold turkey.and thats what motivates me to stay on the low dose, and i look forward to those pills every 4 hours, and have been sticking to it faithfully, Not easy! but i have been doing it.. this is my second day of doing that. my question is.. when should i drop it down to 3 a day..and eventually drop to 2 a day.. i really want to quit these pills, and get my life back, I have been motivated by everyones posts, and i want to do this so bad. Thanks, Paul

I never had any luck with tapers, but I would say when ever your body gets used to only getting 4 a day.  Whenever you aren't feeling the WD from cutting down to 4, then would be the time to cut it down to 3.

Congrats, by the way.  I wish you luck and future success!!

Hang in there!

I was at about 14 percs a day when I went cold turkey.  It was miserable, but I managed.  Tapering requires a good amount of self control that most of us addicts do not have in our arsenal.  You are being pretty responsible thus far, and it will go a long way in making the detox all that more easier to handle.

I would say that if you can get yourself down to 3 or 4 a day, then take the plunge.  Make sure you have a good system in place, such as hanging around this forum and talking to at least on friend or family member to assist you as needed.  Enlisting the help of a doc is always a good idea.

There are many ways you can ease some of those symptoms as they come on.  Just let us know what's going on and we will help you however possible.  And remember, you will be trading up a week of illness for the rest of your life.  Not a bad deal at all, right?

First I want to say way to go!!!!! I am so proud of you for starting the recovery process!!!! You are doing real good.  My boyfriend (Tony) in on his 10th day of cold turkey off percs. He was taking about 10-15 a day depending on what was going on that day.  The first couple of days were real hard for him but today he is doing great.  He is up, out of bed, out of the bathroom. We even went on a walk today. Right now he is even sleeping good.  I think for him that was the worst part was not being able to sleep but I am telling you It does get better.  Today has been great.  He is like a new man!!!  I know ten days seems like a long time right now but it really is nonthing in comparison to the rest of your life.  Just keep up the good fight you can do I know you can.  Keep posting we are all here for you

God bless
Lisa
