Weignt Gain

I always assumed that people usually would lose weight if they're abusing drugs like painkillers.  However my boyfriend has gained a lot of weight.  Is this normal.

how did you get off sub? were you on it long? i feel there is definitely some truth to your poop theory-- I wanna be off sub this month-- which means i wont have time for a drawn out taper-- im just going to have to bite the bullet and do it.

are you guys pooping on opiates? i certainly wasnt. they say the average human walks around with 14 lbs of c r a p in their intestines. im pretty sure i was walking around with about 30. Cuz as soon as I quit (this and other times) the weight dropped off like crazy fast. on the sub i was bloated, looked 50000 months pregnant, thats cuz i hadnt cr apped in months. Once you rid your body of all the opiates, i.e the poop stopper, you should find the extra weight goes away. I was up to 190 on my last day at detox, 60 days later Im back to 158 and Im 5'9" tall so thats perfect for me. It all evens out. Once ya quit.

When I was taking ultram, I lost 8lbs in 10 days.  I didn't have any appetite at all. I had to force myself to eat.   I think that was the only good thing about that drug.  It did nothing to kill pain.

I definitely noticed jis sweet tooth seemed out of control.  He would go so far as to hide candy in the house cause i was always on his case for eating so much junk.  He has always had bad eating habits but this sweet tooth was beyond abnormal.

One of the reasons I like the Vikes so much is that they cut my appetite.  I actually would take them before my workouts.  Like most people, I lost wt. during w/ds and early detox.  Then, the appetite came back with a vengeance, esp the sweet tooth.  As much as I worry about gaining weight, the scariest thing for me was when I totally lost my appetite during my week of withdrawals.  I thought to myself "if I don't force myself to eat, I'm going to waste away".  Food is life.

Yes opiod cause water retention, also they slow down the metabolism, moreover a number of people seem to develop a sweet tooth.Methadone is a number one offendr .people eat more carbohydrates and nod off and wake up higher in weight.Unlike crack heads who never eat never sleep, and lighten up. skeletons. see ya

I gained 30 pounds ,The combo of using pills and quiting smoking did it for me. I however have now lost it all . It does come off . I really focused on clean eating and working out after i got clean.

I have gained 100 pounds over the last six years or so. I have attributed it to depression over the illness and subsequent passing of my husband, then the grief afterwards, a never ending cycle. I also started to work at home during that time period which I am sure did not help much, add that to irregular sleep patterns, sometimes surviving on three hours of sleep in a 24 hour period, just so many different things it could be for me.  However, I wander about the pain pills, that would be very interesting to find some medical data to support the theory of an association with such.  Maybe that would help motivate me to get off the pills, if I thought it would also help get this weight off me. It is kind of like the chicken and the egg, did the depression cause the weight gain or did the weight gain cause the depression?  Who knows, but I lean towards the depression causing the weight gain and also causing the pill addiction.

I have heard quite a few people here say that they have lost weight during their addiction. I gained 10 lbs. I thought it odd also, but it happened. For me I think it was water weight. I always felt bloated. As soon as I stopped using, the weight fell off me.

Are you talking a lot of weight or a few pounds? I am certain that someone here can give you a better medical answer for the weight gain. I am speaking from personal experience.
