For sure, for sure, for sure!!
I kept smelling this awful smell....I'd ask my hubby..."you smell that?"....he'd always say no.
Even right after washing my hair and a shower.....it was still there.
Good news: it goes away.....when we allow time to heal~
I remember the first time I "really" detoxed. I had gone CT many times before off of pill binges but after I got really hooked and strung out, I found out what detoxing really is. The smell thing hit like a ton of bricks - Everything - soap, pillow cases, Food!, everything and everywhere. I didn't have anyone to talk to about this back then - thought it was just me. It'll pass soon.
Day 2 is great. Keep going. I got sick one time and never smoked cigarettes again. The taste was yuck for sure!!!
Keep drinking lots. From above I too spend forever trying to figure out what was burning one night. Good thing I didn't call the fire department.
Yeah currently dealing with this. It's how I knew it was the real deal (blind detoxing off methadone from past heroin addiction) when my smokes start tasting funny and I smell a nasty metallic stench everywhere I know I'm in for a rough time. Day two.
Smells were one of the worst things to deal with during my detox. Sounds trite, but they drove me crazy. My wife would get up in the morning and make breakfast - bacon and eggs. I usually loved waking up to that smell, but during detox it made me gag. I could smell everything, a hundreds times over.
It passed, as did all the physical detox crap. Hang in there - you'll have some great stories to tell...

My body seems to smell like chemicals the first few days when I am really sweating, so I bought the lavender smelling Epson salts this time and it really helped! Then everything smells and tastes like hazelnuts to me, I mean everything. By the way, I hate hazelnuts..lol. keep charging along, you are doing great!
i remember that smell when i was coming off opiates it was gross kinda and i kinda liked it i know weird i find myself thinking I'm smelling it every so often and want to smell it i know WEIRDO lol
I spent the whole day yesterday looking for something burning....that "hot wire" smell, you know....plus, I started sneezing, too. This is straight-up BS........
Everything smelled like metal for me. It was totally annoying! This will go away.
It doesn't help when your body is constantly flush and sweating and your pillows and sheets are soaked.
My whole house seems much dirtier and out of order when I am detoxing and it drives me crazy because I don't feel like cleaning either. I always wish I was at a hotel with clean sheets and a clean room.
I have seen many post about this..We call it the Swiss Cheese kind of smell. Like Rusty old water pipe..You are ridding the poisons and they will come out in any area they can..Just keep trucking along.
Bless
Holy crap never actually heard the words to that song. That is so weird. And scary. I remember when I quit H several years ago I could smell it everywhere. Pissed me off bc it smelled so yuck. I would strip the bed or myself or whatever in a second to get away from it. Thought it was just sweating out if me.
But this is different. Smells toxic at times. Like it burned.
Never heard anyone talk about it here. Thanks.
Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you're in my way
There's too much coke and too much smoke
Look what's going on inside you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Angel of darkness is upon you
Stuck a needle in your arm
So take another toke, have a blow for your nose
And one more drink fool, will drown you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Now they call you Prince Charming
Can't speak a word when you're full of 'ludes
Say you'll be all right come tomorrow
But tomorrow might not be here for you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Hey, you're a fool, you (2:30)
Go on stick them needles in your arm (2:34)
I know I been there before (2:50)
One little problem that confronts you (3:28)
Got a monkey on your back
Just one more fix, Lord might do the trick
One hell of a price for you to get your kicks
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Hey, you're a fool, you
Go on stick those needles in your arm
You're just a fool, just a fool, just a fool
THIS IS ALL I COULD THINK WHEN U SAID THIS!!!!!!
Yes, its very common when coming off opiates and one of the first things I notice. All your senses seemed heightened basically because they have been numbed for so long. Opiates also dry up your nose which is why it starts to run a lot and after awhile you will start sneezing all the time. The sneezing seems to be at the tail end of the physical withdrawals.
