Well...Back contusion...meds

My back was still killing me after taking 2 darvocets in 2 days so I went back to the er, told them the deal and they gave me 30 vicodin. So heres the deal. I took 2 tonight (they gave me a take home pack of 6) and I told my bf to hold the rx when we get it filled tomorrow and give em to me as needed. And if he has to be away from the house for a long period of time I told him to hide two and if I need em I will call him and ask where they are. I thought about this long and hard, and i had a choice. I could either keep them all in my possession (in which they would be gone in a matter of days) or I could give him the control (hes never liked painkillers and wont take them) and I decided to do whats best for me which is to give him total control. I think I made the right choice.

You poor thing... both you are bettie...  Jossysmom is there someone that can hold your script?? That much pain is not great for the baby either.. pain makes our blood pressure rise.. If someone could hold the script for you like Betties bF is doing for her.. it could help..this worries me hun.. take care of yourself..

PS Bettie have you tried Lidoderm patches for your back??  they do help depending on what kind of pain it is.

yea my bf had an "episode" but that was with benzos. He hates painkillers. they make him sick.

I know how you feel right now...I am only a week clean and I was prescribed percocet due to huge cyst bursting and I'm pregnant. I've cried ALL morning because I have taken tylenol and to no avail....and everybody knows I can only take tylenol and narcotic pain relievers during pregnancy. What's so sad is that when my OB prescribed them to me she said..and I quote.."you'll get hooked on these.....".....needless to say, I haven't filled them and am scared to death. She said that it's a good possibility that I'll be in pain for up to a week. YIKES!!! Also, I've been moved to a "high risk" pregnancy because of this and more from the fact I came back positive for toxoplasmosis and I have to see an "infectious decease" doctor....that sounds great doesn't it????

I'm so sorry you're facing this right now.  Take the pills if you have to, but be very, very careful.  Kim is right about the Motrin.  I am amazed at the 800mg. dose how much pain relief it offers.  I had two root canals done about 6 weeks after my April rehab and took nothing but Motrin.  I had abcesses in both teeth, which is very painful.  The throbbing is horrible.  I always thought I had to take narcotics to relieve that pain.  I took Motrin and within 30 mintues I was pain free!  I'm a believer!

Can your bf resist the temptation of the pills himself?  IIRC, he had a problem with alcohol and tranqs.  Hope you're feeling better soon.

I so understand your predicament. Exactly what did you do to your back? Fell and bruised it?  I did that about 2 years ago too. My back is bad to begin with but I was trying to hang up halloween decorations for my kids. I pulled a big round table over in the room and was standing on it and putting up ghosts on hooks on the ceiling. Well the table didnt balance me well and it had a 3 tripod type leg set up underneath. When it tipped/shifted weight, one of the legs broke and the whole thing went over with me on it. I landed ON MY BACK against a shelf that is built into the wall and hit my spine! OMG it hurt so bad. Im one of the skinny people and have a prominent spine anyways so it always sticks out a little. Well those lower vertebraes stickign out REALLY stuck out far after that with all the swelling and bruising around it then.  I had to go on vicodin then for that injury as well.

I hope you feel better soon, and btw thats a great idea aobut having the BF hide them for you so you cant gobble them up. Good luck to you hon!

sorry your back is giving you trouble.   i think it is a great idea to give them to someone else to dispense to you.   my question is this.   did you consider taking just one instead of two?  i mean...who knows, one might have eased the pain.   i also suggest that you try taking 800mgs. of motrin...i think that is 4 otc tabs.  ppl are usually amazed with the relief they can get from taking this dose.  if you are in horrible, unbearable pain...then you might need the vics...but don't let your brain fool you into thinking that the "only" thing that will possibly relieve your pain is the pills.
