What After a SLOW Taper to 0 mg.? Withdrawal?

What After a SLOW Taper to 0 mg.? Withdrawal?

I am doing a SLOW taper -- NOT JUMPING- to 0mg of Opana.  I will have all my extended relief Opanas changed to short-acting, and will be on a dose I will SLOWLY taper to 0 mg.  My question is with I have the terrible withdrawal symptoms that are always mentioned in our forums (believe me I have suffered enough in the long 3 month taper from Opana ER to this dose of short-acting Opana).  I would LOVE to hear from anyone that has done a long taper to 0 and not jumped at another dose.  I don't know whether I will be okay or whether I will have the myriad of withdrawal symptoms.  Some of your experience, strength and hope is appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Marie

Im not too familiar with Opana,,,but from what Ive read of others that have done tapers is that it will minimize the physical withdrawals some. You may have some less annoying ones that last a few days versus a whole week. Im so proud of you and being so militant with your taper off  the Opana!! That took guts! im glad you are going to AA/NA,,that has been my saving grace this time around. (((Hugs)))~Bkitty

Thanks for writing, my Sober Sister,
Yes, AA has saved me too.  I walk into the room son some days, and tears fill my eyes from my gratitude at having all these amazing people to do life with.  I think you and I haven't crossed paths enough, as we are both on MedHelp a lot!  I can't say enough about how much I love my sisters and brothers in the fellowship, and you and I both love the people here on MedHelp or we wouldn't spend so much time here.  It is a way we both give to others, as well as get to get some help ourselves!  I know our friends here on MedHelp will have the same experience we have had if they go to AA.  So I am encouraging them, as you are.  It is my saving grace too.  I think today is a hard day for ya'll, right?  I will pray for you.  Thanks for your encouragement with my taper.  It is obvious to me that my moods wane on how filled my neurotransmitters are.  Yes, it is hard, but I do my best to know my brain will readjust itself (as opiate receptors die off)!  Because this is hard, it is another reason people should seek treatment if they can when getting off of opiates.  If they choose not to, they really need AA and to know that our brains will readjust.  We must have faith.
Big Hug,
Marie
PS  I can deal with the less annoying withdrawal symptoms for a few days.  That would be great!  I wonder what other people will say!

I did what I thought was a slow taper off of vics. I dropped 1 pill every two weeks. I did end up jumping when i got down to 2 a day because i knew I could do it at that point, not for everyone so won't suggest it for you :-) . I did feel withdrawals at every taper but they were mild and only lasted about two days. They honestly weren't anything that disrupted my daily activities. The worst thing that did hit me was a headache that seemed to last the whole time, but please remember everybody is different and wds are different for everyone. You will do fine!

HI  well I did an 8 1/2 mo tape ron methadone all the way down to 3 drops or 1mg my withdrawals where no fun but a far cry from what they would have been if I dident taper methadone is realy not a fait comparison the recovery time in 90 days with pills toy should be good to go withing a month as for the final withdrawal it was mostly body aches the energy crash restless legs at night and no friggin sleep breaking a 16yr habit I came out prity good it lasted about 7 days with some symotomsgoing into 2 weeks the best advise I can tell you is dont read anything into it every withdrawal is different and what happens to one dosent happen to all there is always one symptome you will find more bothersome then the rest fro me it was anxiety I wroteyou a message so check your e/mail  Gnarly

Just checking in to say goodnight.  I actually did change over my last 5 mg Opana ER tab for a short acting, and I can't believe it.  I will check in tomorrow.  Thanks so much,  Marie

Hi everyone -

Please remember that while you can talk about tapering symptoms, symptom management, etc., we can not discuss tapering plans. We realize it's not always possible, but tapering should be done under a doctor's care, and we don't have any doctors posting in this community. A dose that works for one could cause serious problems in someone else.

Thanks for understanding,

Emily

When I tapered my vicodin down I only cut my dosage by half a 5mg pill every week. It was a SLOW taper. I had no physical withdrawal at all. No rebound pain or RLS. what I did get though was lots of mental withdrawal. That could also have something to do with the fact that I was diagnosed with depression. You will probably get your pain back from your original injury, but as your brain heals you your pain with probably less than when you were on the pills. It can be really tough but hang in there. If you continue your taper the way you are you should have very little withdrawal physically. Good luck. And keep up the struggle. It's so worth it in the end.
