****What are people doing for aftercare****

I am wondering what people are doing for aftercare once they have stopped using ? I see a therapist that was what I decided was the best fit for me . I tried the first time without any aftercare that was when I relapsed . This works well for me .I have considered NA but I have not as of this point done it.

I go to AA...I tried NA but did not feel as if I fit in...I asked the AA group if it was ok if i came and they were more than happy to have me..It is a ladies group and we meet every Monday night..I dont always make it due to a busy schedule...but i usually do..last night we had a really good meeting..some of the others are also drug abusers and also alcoholics....i also think posting is good aftercare...good topic avis

I have never recieved any aftercare, dont get me wrong i wish i did seek out some and i still feel it would be beneficial but due to hiding my addiction........i cant. I am seriously considering looking for some, i dont want to throw all i have achieved away and i'm now begining to believe it is important! I just dont know where to start looking..........lol.

I have personally fpund posting here has helped me tremendously!

I use this forum. I am sufficiently busy that I can keep myself occupied most the time and when the cravings hit I get on here and call for help-I'm far enough off the beaten path that I can get help/answers on the forum before I call the doctor and get a script..... I can honestly say that I wouldn't recommend this approach for most people. I truly believe aftercare is one of the most important parts of recovery. So-everyone can use me as a 'bad example' and not do what I do!!!

my church family is great and they keep me accountable.  also coming in here and trying to help others keeps me from wanting to go back.

This isn't aftercare. We need to talk face to face to someone.

I know it's better to have a face to face.  Maybe it's my personality I'm not sure but this place seems to be getting it done for me.  I'm not a big poster but on those occasions that the stress and PAWS really kick in hard just venting to the "world in here" and getting thoughtful replies and encouragement seem to do me a lot of good and keeps me going.

My situation is such  that in the near future my life is going to get a lot more complicated though and I WILL need someone professional.

Just want to put in one more thought for those who have not sought aftercare as it is so important...posting is good but a one on one therapist or meetings are so important....we are worth it...meetings are free and they are everywhere...this is not a lonely disease at all...lots of people out there with the same problem and it amazed me once i "came out of the closet" and went to a meeting...it is not dirty and it is not mean we are weak...it is a disease and it does take aftercare in most cases to stay clean
