What did you do for aftercare?

As some of you know I have finally settled on Monday as my quit date. I have been thinking a lot about aftercare and want to know peoples experiences and what worked best for them. Already I have been looking into NA meetings in my area getting the times and locations so that when I quit I will have an idea of where to go.

I am also going to seek counselling and am going to start checking into that over the next few days.

So can you tell me what kind of aftercare you did? I know this forum will be instrumental in helping me stay strong and I hope to one day be able to help those in my position. Only an addict can know what its like to break free from the stranglehold these things get on you.

hey girlee  well aftercare comes in many colors..for some A/A OR N/A does it for others
its a durg conclor .for others its church based self help groups there are lots of ways to seek aftercare....for myself I see a drug conslor onece a week to vent...I have a close friend thats an addict and is not in active addiction to talk to..im involved in alot of church
activity's that keep me around sober people...people I can share my life with without being judged and I have a personal relationship with Jesus our lord and savior ..all these things helped to keep me clean for 95 days today...im no expert but I do know to model
ones self after successful people and thats what I try and do...those that seek aftercare make it out those that dont ..relapse over and over again...God has played a huge roll in keeping me sober when im at my weakest I seek him for deliverance
I cant over emphasize how important God has been in my recovery and would recamend a walk with him to anyone trying this...good luck and god bless....Gnarly

Hey, I started aftercare on like day 12 (i thnk). Once i wasnt sick anyway. I go to a counselor and I have been thinkng about NA. I'm not usre if I am reading for that :) ANyway I only have 19 days so some of the long timers may be better suited to help. This forum has been a Godsend for me too. You'll see; I am on day and night. The thing that helps me the most is prayer. I find myslef praying alot. Not just for me but for the ppl i meet here. Hope that helps a little.

I personally have an addiction therapist, aftercare group therapy at my rehab facility, and go to NA and AA meetings regularly...along with a sponsor and about 40 other addicts and alcoholics I regularly speak with. It's been working for me.
