What medication Non addictive is the best after withdrawal from 20 years of norcos?

by SuzzQ, Nov 10, 2009 05:21PM
Can anyone advise me of what type of non addictive pain medication to use after withdrawal from norcos?  Been taking them since 91 after a car accident.  The safer the medication, the better.  My liver I'm sure has been through enough after all these years.

I suffer with chronic pain and have for many years. The only pain reliever I have found to work is one called "Toradol". I am not sure I spelled that right. My doctor gives it to me by injection and I have not researched it but I don't think it is available orally. Please do your research before taking any medication. You may also try alternative treatment such as acupuncture or even chiropractive treatment. My problem is with the idea of taking one pain medication to help when I was addicted to another. I am so afraid to put another pill in my mouth so I found another way. I hope you find help for your pain issues. I know how it feels to live with the pain.

Toradol is available in a pill.  It doesnt work AT ALL for me.  Advil works better for me.

Aleve.. Advil...seems to work well for me... whenever I feel the need... which isn't that often anymore...

I was taking 8-10 Norco a day x's 3 years (for 2 back surgeries, spinal stenosis, DDD and now fibro) but now have 103 days CLEAN off of the Norco and the longer I've been OFF the pain meds.. the more tolerable my pain is...It's kinda weird but I think that the MORE pain pills I took.. the worse my pain got...

Hope this makes sense...

You know I had a doctor tell me one time the more opiates you take the more you need and worse you pain feels. So yes what you wrote does make sense. Hope your doing well today.

I take neurontin ( by rx ), ibuprofen 800, and acetaminophen. I keep forgetting to get some aleve. I hear from a lot of people that it works wonders.

medical marijuana has helped alot of ppl with pain, the studies are just beginning , although there are some early ones 1972, -76, but not well documented. That said, access can be diffecult  , but if you are in a state or province where it is legal , & open to it, it can be prescribed & dispenced. Doesn't have to be smoked anymore either, it is made into butter and dosed into cakes & candies.

My Mom has severe spinal stenosis as well as COPD and CHF and recently starting eating Marijuana brownies.. and she says it has helped her ALOT... PLUS it helps her with her appetite... which is a good thing  as she only weighs 85 pounds..
