Which is better? Opinions, please...

I have been reading many posts for a long while now, and I wanted to ask you guys,
which do find better when going through withdrawals?

I've been told it's better to rest and try to sleep as much as possible, to stay in bed. and as far as anything physical goes, to do as little as possible.


I've also been told that when going through withdrawals, to try your best to move around (although it is difficult... and miserable), to try light exercises, like walking or light houeswork  and to keep your daily schedule as normal as you possibly can. (I've been told that may help promote sleep during this difficult time, as well as keep your mind occupied)

Which have you found was better for you?

I thought I would share my experiences. I have gone through withdrawal many times but never could stay away. Now on suboxone but that is a whole other story. Anyway, my experience is that the first couple days I was miserable and would lie in bed. I would try to stay hydrated but there is no way I could have exercised. The main thing was to stay  hydrated b/c I was losing fluid through the other end (sorry to get gross). I would take tylenol pm so that I could sleep as much as possible.  After a couple days is when I would force myself to eat and walk, even if it was just to the mailbox. Also, being outside in the sunshine would make me feel better. So I guess to answer your question, I found alittle of both.

You should attempt to be as physical as you can....as Mom said above - some just plain cant....I would have to have moved at gunpoint for 2 days I believe.....but it is the best thing to do --

I found it very helpful to get up and do something as much as i could.  I walked in the yard or down the block and sat and soaked up some sun.  Music was also my saviour in this.  It was tough but i believe it all helped getting to the other side.........sara

i think it depends alot on each person and their individual circumstances and overall health.  If you can exercise (even just short walks qualifies) then by all means do so. But if you cant, you cant. Its just trial and error.  THe thing that always helped me the most was just reading my favorite books. It helped take my mind of my misery...

For me I did everything I would have done .i worked ,I took care of my family I cooked I started to exercise the first day of wd I think it was the exercise that made things do fast of me .I didn't sleep for almost 4 days and i was miserable but ya know I made it threw and I think if I had laid around wd would have taken longer.

I agree with the above posters.. I did not sleep for 8 days just spurts every once in awhile for like 10 15 min. With this wd I walked sat in the sun and walked some more.. I tried laying in bed but the rls would kick my butt. I found so many benefits to walking I would of the entire time if I could have.. My attitude also played a big roll.. Our minds are powerful tools.. knowing this is the price I had to pay to get to the other side..Just kept a healthy outlook with enough humor to find the absurdity of my situation... Same here. No way i could lay around. The rls prevented that. I forced myself to try to do the things i normally do. It was horrible but you can do it unless you are in bad health.  I think the more i tried to just rest the worse it was.  I am ahead of myself here a little since i am only on day 8 LOL, but i did FINALLY get a full nights sleep last night. It was like heaven to sleep normal.  The mind part is huge to me. I am using this wd as my way of fighting thru it as i DO NOT want to go through this ever again.  Hang tough!!

I sure wanted to lay around but I`m a big routine person and all though it was hard @ times I think it would have been alot harder to sit and think(dwell) on how I was feeling.
Know matter what- YOU CAN do this!!!!  The people on here are truly awesome, keep posting and asking questions. Stay Strong!!!

For me , i can remember my first detox..I layed in bed, and was a clock watcher, every minute, every hour i counted...I only made it to day 3...To me that is the worst thing to do as it makes it go so slow....The next time, I tried to not do that , I did walk, but it wasn't much at first...I agree with sara on the music thing..I put on my favorite , then I remember cooking a spagetti, and it took me 4 hours, because i had to sit, then cook then sit...I had to be a mom, but i think it was the 2nd day, that i just layed on the couch and watched home movies...I couldn't do anything if i tried that day, except go to the bathroom.....I beleive now that if you can, force yourself to do something, even if it is small thins...., and don't be a clock watcher, that is just horrible...good luck , u have gotten some great advice...Just listen to your body....We are here if you need....Life is so much better off of these pills, that i promise you!!
