Who here has ever had a doctor help them?

Personally, I think doctors are a waste when you want to withdraw.  What do they know?  They either prescribe another medicine for you or they tell you 1/4 of what you will learn here as to how to cope.  My doctor was horrible when I said I wanted to taper. He put in PA in charge and all she did was charge me 300.00 a visit to get a lower prescription. I could have kept my original prescription and just taken less (at a much less cost).  She didn't know the first thing about detox, withdrawals, blood pressure, seizures.. nothing. I have learned more on this forum than I ever learned in the doctor's office. Plus at the pain clinic that I go to, they treat people like chattels and get each one in there for 10 minutes and out real quick so they can make tons of money.

same with detox centesr - they are all about the profit. i think it is unimaginable how many people in this country are hooked on drugs and couldn't afford to spent 20 or 30K to go to a detox center.  the cost is outrageous as basically you get a bed and some vitamin iv perhaps - then people come in to talk to you throughout the day.  The knowledge that any one of those counselors or doctors is not any better than the knowledge that I have found here in the past 24 hours of being on this site.

Our health system needs reform. I thinik that there are more Americans addicted to prescription drugs than we even know!!  And it is almost impossible to be able to afford to get off of them with treatment in a facility.

god bless and good luck to all the good people here fighting the fight to get off drugs on their own. You can do it.  I hope I can do it.

i currently have a very good doctor.....although at times that can be quite irritating when i'm wanting a script....but this is the reason i go to her. sadly not all doctors are that way....and i've been to my fair share of them. of course, part of the problem is when a doctor gives you a script for something addicting and you get addicted, it's hard for them to say 'woops....shouldn't have done that...' so they don't.

Hi and welcome to the forum...well I guess ive been lucky with dr both my phyc dr and my primary care dr were 100% behind me getting off the methadone both took the time
to explain what was to be expected, where sympathetic during my withdrawals and helpful with some RXed meds to eaze the withdrawal... I was open and honest with both
of them and they treated me like I had any other illness ...now the only obstical I ran into was the methadone clinic...the first thing they did was have me sigh a paper that said in bold print...only 20% of the people that try to get off methadone will be successful and instead of incoraging me they did everything they could to keep me on it including a painfully slow taper off only 2mg a week and it would have been 2mg every 2 weeks for me unless I wanted to loose my 2 week take home privilege..
I dont regret tapering myself off from my take homes and did it in less then 1/2 the time the clinic would have taken so I guess its just what dr you have to work with weather the system works for you or not...both my primary care dr and my phyc dr have told me how proud they are that I stuck it out the 8 1/2mo it took to get off it
and my phyc dr is addressing the P.A.W.S symptoms as well I think ive been her ginnipig  having both methadone detox/withdrawals as well as bipolar disorder going on at the same time but she has done well keeping me as stable as possible so far during the last 126 days sober I first went right to the edge of a manic epasode
she changed my meds around and prevented that then I sorta started slipping into a depression and she put me back on antidepressant and I have been slowly coming out of the depression again she stays one step ahead ...thats a lot for a phyc dr considering she treated me threwout my methadone addiction I think she has done very well....I hope you can find a dr thats a bit more helpful I know thew out my addiction to pills I ran into some real winners but I only think it fare to share about the good dr also...good luck and God bless....Gnarly

I have had a doctor help me, big time -- my primary care provider. And it was in the last few days. When he found out I was trying to pass bad scripts, he didn't turn me in or "fire" me as a patient, but said, firmly, that he would work with me if I did A, B, C...

The detox hospital I went to was a joke.

I left in two days...

they laughed at me and said I would never make it.

well I made it...the info here is 10000 times better.

They had no clue.

There are many doctors out there that have helped members get clean I think when u get into the pain management end of it there are not as many that's what they do they medicate pain not taper them off.You also wont find that many that want to come off . I wish that addiction was not seen in the light it is but unfortunately we have a long way to go before addiction is treated as a disease instead of a dirty little secret.
