Will Neurontin help at all?

I have to stop taking Lortabs - I posted about 8 weeks ago.  My doctor agreed to a VERY kind taper schedule, but I did not stick to it.  I came clean with the people who have been doling out my pills last night.  I'm at about 100mg of hydro a day.  I have approximately 20, 5 mg Lortabs (someone else has them, so I'm not sure of the exact amount).  My question is this: can anyone help me with a taper schedule, and will Neurontin help with anything?  That's the only other medication that I have right now.  I haven't been taking it at all, but I have a standing order for it at the pharmacy for when I get shingles, so it wouldn't be a big deal to go and get it.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Neurontin might help with withdrawls but I do know that it is prescribed for nerve pain, and have gone through opiate withdrawls. I was on about 10 10mg hydrocodone a day mixed with at least 1 to 2 40 mg oxys, and about 2 somas. Mind it if I made more money at work that week( commission job) it was significantly more that that. But I got on suboxone, and that helped with the withdrawls better than anything and it's not methadone. My thing is that when I got on suboxone, I started school again, working, dating, ect. I had my life back. A lot of people argue that you are switching one to another, but really if it makes your life better I say go for it. Unfortunately a lot of people use it as a crutch to keep using. And use then when they run out, grab the suboxone for withdraws, then go back. But if you stick with it, it has nalaxone in it and that prevents other opiates from having an effect and will through your body into rapid detox if you do take suboxone after a good run with dope( which is why a doctor will make you withdrawal for a good day or two before you can take it), so even if you try to shoot up or take pills, you might only try once or twice because there's no effect, and you realize you wasted 100$ bucks or whatever the amount. But neurontin doesn't seem like it would help that much, not to mention its a drug that you need to take for a good week or two for it to start to fully begin working in your system. But I was on suboxone for two weeks at first to get off dope then tapered off. A few months later I started to pop a few pills every once in a while again so I got back on it. Now I've been on it for about 2 years and haven't felt better. My life has changed significantly, no pills or anything, now it my choice to stay on it or get off of it, my brain is ****** regardless and will probably need to be on an antidepressant or something anyway( which the suboxone in some states is used for). Also you can get a shot of vivitrol, it lasts a month and it takes all the ******** away from the dope, cravings, withdrawals ect..... But there about 400$ a shot. Anyways there's lots of government help for suboxone(money wise) if you don't have insurance and the website has coupons and help as well. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. My friends and I all have experience getting off of pills/ heroin and with suboxone and vivitrol, do don't hesitate to ask. One more thing, a lot of  people bash suboxone on the forums but it affects everyone's body differently, so do your on case work on it and see. And let me know if the neroutin worked for you and how your doing. Anywho  mahalo nui loa, Joe

Neurontin helps big time for withdrawals. I was also taking lortab and was prescribed neurontin for nerve pain. It didn't help with the pain though. I read about it and it is used in some detox centers. I took it and it made my withdrawals 90% easier. I still had a bit of anxiety and the body chills. I was able to sleep and didn't have the restless legs. So in my opinion I would say give it a try. There have been a few others on here that tried it and also said it helped. I was amazed on how well it worked for me.

Neurontin affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. The exact way that it works is unknown.

Neurontin is used with other drugs in the treatment of some types of seizures and for the management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain caused by the herpes virus or shingles).

Neurontin may also be used for purposes other than those listed  hope this helps
