Will Percocet show up in amniotic fluid

I'm 16 weeks pregnant and am currently on 2mg of subutex. I plan on weening off completely by my 6th-7th month (I have weened down from 8mg to 2mg since I found out I was pregnant). Now my question is about Percocet. I haven't taken any in about a year but last night I was half asleep and thought I was taking Tylenol that I had taken out of the bottle and decided not to take them at that moment so I left them on the kitchen counter. Instead I accidentally took 2 of my sisters Percocet!!! I have read about risks etc. and from what I can see it's not dangerous to my baby, THANK GOD! Of course I'm still petrified! But now I'm going for amniocentesis Next week and I'm wondering if the Percocet will show in that test. I know they are testing for specific levels for chromosomal abnormalities but does everything including the Percocet show up in the lab? Does it even stay in the amniotic fluid that long? Please if anyone knows anything about this I would really appreciate the response. I'm already so stressed about the amnio and the risks involved in that plus the results to see if my baby is ok. All unrelated to this... but nevertheless stressed!!! I would tell my doctor that I took the Percocet but I'm afraid she won't believe it was an accident. I'm already labeled an addict due to the subutex so why would they believe me?! I still can't believe this even happened, the only reason I even knew is because my sister (who Is very ill) saw that her 2 pills weren't there and she thought her dog may have gotten them and was very nervous and that's when I put two and two together because I didn't feel anything. Obviously we need to be more responsible with leaving medications out but what's done is done and I already feel guilty enough! I was clean way before I got pregnant and have no desire to take anything. I can't wait to be off the subutex and would've been off it already if I could've weened off faster but due to pregnancy I have to do it slowly under the care of my physician. Sorry for the long post but I want all the facts out there so people don't waste their time judging me and that I only get responses from people that can actually help. Thank you in advance

I can hear how stressed you are. As addicts, we need to learn new ways of dealing, because obviously, we aren't dealing when we are using. And when you are off subs, it's a whole different ball game. So I strongly urge you to get into recovery.

You can't start imagining how the obgyn will react. It doesn't matter if he or she is judgmental, what matters is the health of your baby. Go and be honest. That's the only way you things have a chance of being in your favor.

So I had the amniocentesis done and so far so good. However I didn't even have the chance to tell my doctor because the ultrasound tech was the one with me the entire time, the doctor was in and out. I thought we would go in his office afterwards but that didn't happen. Now I'm nervous again! Not sure how to handle it from here...

If you took them by mistake then be honest about that.  No reason to lie to anyone.  When you go to your amnio appt tell them.  It is better to be safe than sorry.  Please let us know how things turn out~

I'm going to do exactly that. The doctor that's doing the amnio is very nice and I'm pretty sure he won't be judgmental or think I'm lying, he always tells me how great I'm doing and what a great mom I'm going to be. My appointment is Tuesday the 4th, I will be sure to update. Thank you!!!

It terrifies me to be honest because I'm not prescribed any pain meds and when you're pregnant if you take something, especially a narcotic, you need a prescription. So I'm worried that they will put it in my chart and this will end up becoming a really big problem. I'm very nervous about this. In many ways! I'm also thinking that since my body isn't used to pain meds that the baby felt it or that something bad could've happened. I have read about women continuing their meds while pregnant, but their bodies are used to it. Just like my body is used to the subutex...I'm not even sure who to tell. There's my regular OBGYN (who is very judgmental), the high risk specialist that I have seen just as much and my subutex doctor. As for recovery I'm only seeing my doctor monthly (subutex dr. Who is also a psychiatrist) but when I stopped using last year I was seeing a therapist privately. I'm mainly just staying away from the bad influences and sticking with family and good supportive friends. I still can't believe I did this. I'm so stressed over this and I know stressing isn't going to help...

Also should I lie and say I took it on purpose so I don't look like I'm trying to get over? Bc I wouldn't believe me if I heard an addict say this! But if I did it purposely I would've taken 10 not 2....

Be honest with your OBGYN that is the most important part! I know it scary but they are very understanding if you are honest.

Hi, just be 100% honest with your obgyn. That's all you can do. Any attempt at minimizing or covering up will surely be a problem later on. Also, I hope you are in some type of recovery. Once the opiates are gone, we are just addicts w/o the drugs. We need to work on living life w/o substances and we can't do it alone.
