Will someone please listen and help?

I have taken fioricet for more than 30 years. I developed migraines at age 8 and was thrilled to find something that took away the pain. For at least five years now my doctors have been chastising me and telling me to stop taking fioricet. Even my insurance company has sent me warnings about fioricet. Since I can't get anyone to prescribe it for me I have been ordering it online for over two years and have maxed out credit cards and spent huge amounts of money. I even have it shipped to someone else's address then go to the shipper with a door tag to pick it up. I can't do that anymore though because this person is getting suspicious. When I order 90 pills it doesn't even last 2 weeks. Now I have done the most horrible thing I have ever done to feed my addiction. My daughter also gets migraines and was recently prescribed Fioricet. I lied and got it filled three times for her then I took her pills and replaced them with Execdrin because she wasn't using them since her migraines are so infrequent. Earlier this week she had a migraine and took what she thought was Fioricet. She not only got no relief from her headache but to make things worse the caffeine kept her up until 3am. When she told me about it I wanted to DIE right then and there. I can't tell my husband about this even though he is a nurse because I have hid it for so long. I don't want to take Fioricet again but tonight I found myself online trying to figure out how to scrape up the money to order some and where to have it shipped. I at least need to figure out a way to replace my daughter's pills. I have chronic pain and get migraines and sinus and muscle tension headaches. Several of my doctors have told me I have fibromyalgia but they don't want to give me that diagnosis because they fear I will have problems with my insurance company. I'm sick of hiding my secret, sick of headaches,sick of constant pain and know I am the worst wife and mother in the world. Someone please give me some suggestions. I don't know what to do anymore!

your aren't horrible- you are dependent. are there any pain management doctors in your area?
they can be really useful, but you cannot stray.
they may also be able to find something besides fioricet-which i think is hydrocodone and tylenol- that could help.
i can hear your pain-you are not alone. could you ask your doc to refer you to a pain management clinic?
i hope that you can find one person you trust that is there in your area, and explain the situation.

WoWThere are a few things going on here..  You can not ColdTurkey from this drug it has to be a slow taper normally a doctor would at least start wd with the patient in the hospital.Make sure they were stable There's a chance of fatal seizures if they don't.There are many many other drugs that will work for your headaches .It's time to come clean talk to your doctor and your family .They love you its time to get better .The lying and sneaking around is going to eat you alive .plz get help for your sake and the sake of your family.

Thank you I have put postings on other pages and no one replied. No one cared enough. There are no pain management doctors in my area so I have been sent to neurologists and orthopedists who tell me they can't find anything on xrays,MRIs or CAT scans so I should just take Advil there is nothing wrong. If I hear that again I will scream.

You are not alone, and you are not a bad mother. You have a disease. Its hard to think of it that way but it is. I have also been having migraines since age 8. Up until 10 years ago i just had to deal with them. But then Imitrex came out and I dont know what i would do without them. So look online an google migraine medication and hopefully they will have something to help you. Good luck. And I will be thinking of you.

I have gone off this drug cold turkey a number of times. If I do come clean I'm afraid they won't love me. When I cold turkey I usually have visible symptoms that are like a severe migraine so no one really notices or maybe they just don't care.

I cannot take imitrex or any triptans because they give me chest pain but I will google migraine medication for other options.

You cant count on that every time all it takes is one seizure They will still love you .I was sooooo afriad to tell my hubby to I didnt the first time I went threw the whole thing alone expect for the forum members thank god I had them.Then the second and last time which was 778 days ago I got honest with him ands myself and got clean it was a major weight of my shoulders .now I had alot of support !!!!We will be here for you too!!!!You have to desided when the right time is going to be to tell but I do hope you do!!

I also suffer from chronic migraines among other illnessess. Has your doctor tried putting you on a preventive medication like topomax (topamax)? I take 100 mg nightly that will keep it at bay most of the time, I still will get migraines but not as often and not as severe. i would be honest with my doctor, advise you still need something to help with the headaches. alot of people have the same problem wich is unfortunate because it does work. I feel your pain so much. I dont think there is anything worse then migraines and back & tooth pain. I used to be totally debilitated when a migraine came once i had one for a week strait wanted to bash my head against the wall 10 times. I hope you find someone and something to help you.

Tried topomax (topamax) and other meds beta blockers and anti-seizure. Have tried five different things 2 made me act like I was in a fog even some slurred speach. Others didn't make a difference. Doctor says it's because I get threee different kinds of headaches and the sinus and muscle tension ones can easily turn into a migraine. Just getting really frustrated but so glad I found this site. Thanks everyone for listening it's nice to finally feel like I'm not alone.

you know the butalbital in the fioricet can actually be causing your migraines, right? the worst time in my migraine history was when i was taking 10+ fioricet a day because it causes SEVERE rebound migraines every day. it's very difficult to know exactly how severe your migraines are, or how chronic they are, while you're dependent on this medication. it's also next to impossible to know whether meds like topamax are working or not.

i understand how difficult it is to get off this med...and there are a few other people here struggling with the same thing. you're not going to find a great deal of people who can relate simply because this drug isn't prescribed nearly as often as something like vicodin...but addiction is addiction and everyone here can relate. but i hope you do understand, you'll never be able to manage your migraines completely while you are abusing this medication.

i think you should consider a detox center or something...or telling your doctor just how bad your addiction is because barbiturates are even worse than benzo's when it comes to withdrawal...the side effects can be extremely severe if you don't do a good taper.

I have migraines and have been cut off 2x by Drs. I never abused it. I finally went to a Neurolgist that gets migranes (migraines) too. He knows a lot of headaches are rebound but why should someone suffer is his logic. He does not want you to take more then 2 a day! Doctors do sometimes under medicate as well. The pain of a abcess (abscess) tooth is the worst pain I ever had. Does a Dentist really know what it feels like? No because they can afford to take care of their teeth! More and more they are telling people to take motrin when something stronger is needed. When you are in pain you can't sleep  and we all know the repercussion if we don't sleep.I don't have insurance right now so haven't had anything but over the counter med and I'm sure my stomach is showing it!
