Will the anxiety from w/d last forever??

by mama23babies, Sep 17, 2009 07:41PM
I am almost 12 weeks clean from hydro's and I am still suffering from more anxiety than I would like. Although it is not as bad as at the beginning when I was having 2-3 panic attacks everyday for several weeks. I am just wondering has anyone else every experienced this after being clean for almost 3months. I have bouts of depression, anxiety and major fatigue. Is this all normal and how long until it's over??Any comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me with this issue.

Did you have anxiety issues before you started taking opiates?

Hi ! I am sorry to hear you are having a rough time . I to suffered with pretty bad anxiety for about 2 or 3 months . There are many factors here . How long you were using and how much . I have a preexisting anxiety disorder so the mental W/D's are even worse for me . But rest assured they will go away . The funny thing with me is if I stay away from vicodin I don't have hardly any anxiety problems at all .  GaGuy above can help you alot also . Good luck and hang in there !   Jimmy

I had panic attacks a long time ago and depression too.  I am glad that one of my Dr.s' let me have a few days worth of Clonidine to help with detox and I also had a few tranzene.  Since then I have had one really noticable panic attack, brought on by domestic issues.   I am currently on Cymbalta 60mg twice day, remeron 30mg at bedtime, and decreasing the neurontin to 300mg three times a day.   Someone on these posts, a long time ago, said that opiates mess up the brain or re-wire it, so it will never be the same again.  I did not want to believe it will never be the same again, I still hold out hope,  and I know that I am better 7 months down the road than I was at 1 month !!  So, I still look forward to the one year, two year and forever being clean and forever in recovery.   It does get better but you have to give it time and all your attention.   Giving up or giving in,  it's not an option for me.    I wish you much good fortune in your quit, I know it isn't easy but in my mind, it does get better!

Ive been off for about a week panic attacks are so bad I feel as if Im going to explode try asking your doc for some valium or ativan or even xanax if you cant get him to give you any there is an old remedy benadryl they also use that for the treatment of anxiety..... or maybe you should get thyroid screening because sometimes that too can cause really bad anxiety attacks

I have always had some minor anxiety even as a child such as irritable bowel and getting nervous in front of the classroon. I guess you could say that I am a bit of a worrier, but I have always been able to control it without DR's or meds. I have never had a panic attack until I came off the pills two different times. It's horrible for me.

I used for 17 months everyday. I just didn't think that it would take that long to get over this. I am so glad to hear that you are getting better. The pills seemed to keep me calmer for the longest time and then it started to backfire and make me worse as my body got more addicted to them. So I knew it was time to quit.

Congrats on 7 months! I am glad that you are feeling better. I feel better than the first month or so but the anxiety, depression and fatigue is awful to deal with. The depression is alot better for the most part. I still have my days with that but the anxiety really gets to me.

I know exactly what you mean about going to explode. That is exactly how I feel when I get panic attacks with the anxiety. The Dr gave me xanax which helps alot. I just don't take much of it. I am scared of another addiction. I have only used it one time in the last week. I have also had my thyroid checked and it is fine. I guess I just really messed up the chemicals in my brain and will have to wait it out until it decides to be normal again.
