Withdrawal from Pers. Morphine

Hi - I am new to this forum.  I have been on Vicodin (7.5 mgs  3-4/day) and Morphine (15 mg 2/day) for the past 2 years.  We've finally determined that the Morphine has been what's causing me all of my serious GI issues, so the pain clinic is taking me off Morphine.  I tapered down over a 3 week period, removing 1/2 tab each week until Christmas morning when I took my last 1/2 pill.  I'm wondering if anyone can tell me from their experience how long the withdrawal symptoms last?  It's my 14th day off the morphine (still on the vicodin for back pain after 2 surgeries), but I still feel pretty awful.  I have headaches, nerve/cramping pain in my legs, tired, sick to my stomach, achy, etc.  The crying and panic attacks have finally stopped, but I'm just so tired/frustrated with all of this.  I occassionally have a day when I feel a tiny bit better and think I'm making progress and then the next day I feel sick / flu-ish again.

Is there anything that I can do to help this?  My Drs seemed to think this would be  pretty easy transition - boy were they wrong !!!

Thanks for any help / encouragement you can give me.  I am 46 and had my two surgeries in 2001 and 2004.    Take care!!

Hey I just read your story and wanted to know what to tell my friend who is on day 9 and feeling bad still. So just wanted to know what to tell him, did it eventually get better for you?

Welcome to the forum. I am not as well versed in morphine so hopefully someone will chime in. You should start to feel better any day now. Pick up some good vitamins and minerals to help the body and muscles. Bananas help too. Are you planning to quit the Vicos? I was hooked on them. After I got off them, my back pain lessened quite a bit.(Bulging discs)

Hang in there, you should be turning a corner soon. Try  to stay busy...I know it's hard, the hardest part for me was always the no energy, but seriously the busier you are the less yo notice the symptoms. It's hard to say for sure because you are still taking the vicodine so you are just getting used to a lower dose of opiates every day, so that might take a little while. Your body probably feels like it's being teased!
