Withdrawal symptoms and timing getting off Suboxone

My son is on day 10 withdrawing from Suboxone which he was given to withdraw from a long term use of Methadone which he was given for pain from a broken leg because he is allergic to "normal" pain killers.  He is so very sick at this point, shaking, buzzzing in his head, chills, smoking excessively.

We would like to hear from others who have withdrawn from Suboxone and Methadone. Have you been successful?

If you are on suboxone and are given any council and I am including Drs.and or therapists or even people who mean well ,mixing suboxone with any form of benzodiazapine drug ie.-xanax, clonazepam valium, etc. is very dangerous and should be addressed in  a hospital or with an informed physician who are aware of this as a very urgent problem please get info out to anyone who is using both of these meds simultaneously

My daughter is 38 years old and has just kicked the suboxone cold turkey.  She was on it for 3 years.  Kept trying to get the doc to help and support her in this, but all he kept doing was discouraging her.  Its all about the $$$$.  She was admitted to the hospital with abdominal cramps and vomiting.  This was after 14 days without.  She's not a candy *** by any means but she says she feels hopeless and alone..... Can't find anyone that has taken this **** as long as she has.  I am so fearful for her.  I have been thru the addiction myself with heroin.   Her father has been on methodone since 1978 and has no hope of ever getting off that **** since it has settled into his bone marrow.  Someone give me hope that she will be ok.

I am sorry but your post made me feel awful. I am almost there withdrawing from suboxone. I am 61 and for you to encourage people to take drugs like heroin is not what I thought these places were about. There is a way to do it and yes it will have some discomfort, but NO NO NO if you want to be clean, do NOT take another opiate. Don't mean to come down on you but your post is just like I was over 40 years ago. I think most people are here to get off drugs not find another to help. I am tapering slowly. Now day 30 on subutex and down to 15 mg, tomorrow 14 in two days 12 then 10 and so on and there should NOT be anything really bad. Yes I was on a path of hard drugs in the sixties but I don't mean to put you down but your post made me feel awful when you suggested using heroin to get off suboxone..... please people there are much better ways.

I am tapering and going to taper quicker, From what I hear there will be withdrawal... but you need to taper and the docs just want you to keep paying them to stay on it.

I have taken suboxone for 2 years I was sure I would never get off, about 7 days ago I stopped cold turkey the first 6 days I dont really remember anything but pain and sleeping then on day 7 I got out of bed and took a walk around the block after I returned home and sat down the pain came back in my legs the worst so I got back up and walked some more, walking has been helping more than any thing else. a hot bath helps with the leg pain im still not out of the bad part yet but I think I can do it and I hope you can to.

Okay, first of all, stop bashing addicts!  Why is it bad to be an addict?  Because it is politically correct? Screw that! I aint no sheep, and neither should you be one.  What's wrong with being an addict.  Not a goddamn thing!  If this country would just legalize drugs we wouldn't have half the problems we have here today.

Did you know that in a different place and time it was very dignified to be an addict.  It meant you had the ways and means to the drug.  Hey, Our Maker, didn't put Poppies out here for ******* nothing! 250,000 years of cultivation, with molecular structures that just so happen to fit out brain chemistry like an exact fit of a puzzle peice.  The addiction part was so that the Poppies would be continued to be cultivated.  It's a symbiotic relationship that was created by nature.  Man v. the Plant.  Poppies cannot survive without proper cultivation, thus this is how it ensured it through causing it's perfect fit chemical to be "addicting."  HELLO ....HELLO....HELLO.....I don't see anything wrong with that! PERIOD!!!  Stop listening to a bunch of no good special interest bunch of bull **** people along with goverment officials that spread propaganda just to ******* CONTROL your dumb blind dead ***!  Wake up!!! Stop playing the ******* sheep role dumb *** and become a wolf and start fighting to set a different reality! Not one in which peeps are brain washed and controlled in not using something that was designed for man!  All this ******** of withdrawing wouldn't be going on if this **** was banned!   ********! It's banned so that your *** does what the goverment once you to do.  Plus, they make tons and tons and tons of ******* money making it illegal.  Oh well, I think it is way to complicated for most peeps to understand.

Anyway, let me clear up so mistaken and misleading facts that were left on this forum.  First of all, it is NOT dangerous or life threatening to withdrawal from opiates, i.e., heroin, morphine, etc.  God didn't linkn man with the Poppy plant to kill him!  He just linked him to ensure symbiosis.  Duh!!!!

Secondly, to ensure that you do not withdrawal off of suboxone, what you do is take heroin for 1 week, and then stop.  You will NOT withdraw! If you do, then it will be very, very, very minor.  Remember, the trick is the switching from one form to the other.  Last time I did that, I just was so tired that I was knocked out for 12 hours and then the next night another 12 hours.  That was it! Of course, I will always CRAVE the **** b/c it is what I want!  **** the gov!  **** it!

I take suboxone and have for a year. You should not be on methadone with the suboxone, for one it blocks opiates and if you take opiates while on suboxone it can throw you into severe withdraw. The is no help if you are throw into withdraw, you must ride it out. Then start retaking the suboxone. Also you are to be tapered off in 1 to 2 mg incerments. Go to the NAABT.org site there is lots of info and you can email real Dr. on there and they will write you back ASAP. He needs to be under a doctors care right now and maybe go back on the suboxone.

my wife is an addict.  she took benzos and painkillers for about 3 years and has been through rehab three times.  The last time was about a year ago for 30 days.  she has been "clean" for the last year but I say clean in quotes because she has taken suboxone for the last year - as prescribed.  She decided a week ago to just stop taking it and she hasn't sleep in 7 days!  she SAYS she doctor told her it was ok to just stop taking but to be honest, I still don't believe much of what she says after all we have gone through.  Can anyone tell me what I should do as the husband watching all of this happen and/or give me me realistic thoughts on what I might expect from here out?  I need to stay detached so knowing what to expect and knowing when I might need to step in because she is in danger is helpful to not getting pulled in just because that was the old pattern.  Thanks.

Ya really! She's a mother who's concerned about her son, who has made the decision to get OFF the medication, and NOT continue it!!!!!!!!!! What is wrong with people on here, and why the bashing??? There's already been two members who've stopped talking on this forum for the simple fact that there's been nothing but bashing when all people want is help!
Yes, there's always excuses for addiction, and yes- there ARE enablers: that's not the issue here! She's trying to get advice on withdrawal and what to do next! Withdrawals can be fatal, if not monitored properly!
Mom, if I were you, I'd give him the option of calling the nearest detox center- Another option would be to simply call the doctor that prescribed him the Methadone, AND the Suboxone and they will have options for him as well. He's not in this alone, we've all been through it!
When you come here for advice and need help, we're here..regardless of the inviduals who feel that have the need for bashing or ridicule, do not pay any attention to it- the truth is, as you already may know, he's become addicted, but he's made the decision to STOP, and that's the first step to recovery- admitting you have a problem and you're powerless over drugs!
We're here for you!
Love,
Alli

It is a pleasure to be able to, I don't know what to expect for myself this time around but I do know it most likely wont be pleasant. Then again you never know maybe the planets will align or some karazy thing like that, I hope your son hangs with it cause I know he will enjoy life so much more when he get's that funky stuff outta his system, I will check into my bag of tricks and see what I can remember cause I used to know of alotta herbs that were pretty helpful for anxiety, sleep, and so on also he's gotta eat good so good to know he has you on his side..drink lots of gatoraide to keep the electrolytes in cause you urinate tons usually and sweat take some supplements with food eat lot of fruit easy on the stomach stuff..there are some good teas stuff like that for drinking in the evening to help with sleep more to come...

Thanks again for your input.  I'm trying to help him the best I can..food, shelter, whirlpool baths, treadmill...but he is climbing the proverbial walls.  I just wish there was something to give him to sleep without stopping the withdrawal process.  Anyway, good luck to you...

I am hoping to hand this forum over to my son so he can chitchat with you.  Meanwhile, as a mom, it helps to connect with folks who have these miseries.  Bless you for being willing to share your story...

Thanks for listening...he was on a lot of Methadone for about 15 years..and I agree that since he was on Suboxone for only three weeks before letting go of it, that he is really dealing now with Methadone withdrawal.  Does anyone ever recover from that?  He does not hear many success stories.  Sparkle
