Withdrawal

I am about to go through Heroin withdrawal. I'm really scared. What can I do to ease the symptoms? I've been using for two years, about 10 bags a day. I've been to detox twice, but always go back. I'm so depressed. I start a really good job tomorrow and I'm scared I'll lose it due to my addiction which is why I want to get clean, but the withdrawal is so bad.

Hi and welcome! First, congrats on the new job! That's so exciting and will be a good motivator for you! Second, I agree and try to quit on a Friday so that you can go through the w/ds on Saturday and Sunday. I didn't quit heroin, but a nice sized pain pill addiction, and the first 48 hrs were the worst for me. Stock up on the Thomas Recipe vitamins/supplements and buckle down for a weekend of the "flu." You can do this. Please let us know your plans...we're all here to support and cheer you on.

Also if you can not go to a detox then you should go to a DR and tell them..My experience I would NOT let them put you on Methadone or Subs because they are so so so synthetic and way harder to detox. I have heard a lot on here, from reading and having friends that the H is more on the natural side, so it will detox a bit easier but it is staying clean that is the hardest.
The Dr can give you some Clonidine that is a light BP med and maybe some Buspar for anixtey. This is what I finally took after 22 days into my detox from a 12 year ride on Methadone and 2 other meds that I c/t over a year ago..If you stick with us we can share our experiences and what we used to help us during and after our detox. There is a lot of things that can help ease it a bit..The detox is the easy part it is fighting the demons to stay clean that is the hard part..You will need to get yourself to some Meetings..Any will do. Also you will have to change and stay away from people, places and things that can cause triggers at any given moment..This process into our recovery is not meant to be walked alone and it takes the rest of our lives too keep it up.. I wish you the best and be serious about taking back your life before the drugs take your life.

Yea, I wouldn't stop and go to work.  That's just not realistic.  Your saying bags so i'm figuring east coast dope.  The type of heroin and city you get it from can be a factor as well.  If your doing 10 bags of DC dope it's not going to be as much as 10 bags of philly dope.  Regardless it's gonna be bad.  That first day wont be so bad.  You could go to work on that first day.  For me it never really set in until the 24 hour period.  After you do your night time shot, hit, whatever go to sleep and skip your gate shot in the morning and hit up work before you have some days off than get sick on your days off.  You'll still be sick going back to work but getting better, kinda. i'm not sure what kind of work you do.  With me there is no way I could work.  My job is way to physical.

Do you have any detox meds?  clonidine was a life saver for me.  Your a heroin addict though.  You should know what helps you get through the detox.  I know this isn't new to you.  I would recommend some other stuff but i'm not a doctor so......kinda stuck.  Are you close to Baltimore?

Do you have any out patient clinics you can go to for detox? You will feel lousy for a bit, try to stop when you have a weekend or a few days off, I think if you can make it, the worst are the first 3 days. Your goal to stop and start a new job will make it all worth it. Hang tuff you can do it.

I don't know anything about heroin withdrawals but there are some people here that will respond to your post. I am 53 hours clean from a 20 plus Norco habit!  It ***** but I am making it!  If you have been to rehab then you know what you need to do!  Figure out why you keep going back!  I wish you luck!
