Withdrawals from Vicodin

Hi all, I have been on Vicodin for awhie..much longer than I realized and just recently had my doctor tell me some symptoms I thought were related to a UTI was actually signs of addiction and withdrawals from Vicodin. Yeah for me. I have dumped all of my pills in the toilet. I was taking 10mg 1-2 times a day but just about every day except on the weekend of the 4th when I didn't have them with me and then on the 5th, I just forgot as we were drinking a bit and that is when these symptoms began. I am now in full fledged withdrawals and have a question.

Tomorrow, I am to have an ultrasound for kidney pain I have been having for awhile now. My doctor believes it "may" be kidney stones or could be related to the Vicodin. My question is, I am supposed to be fasting for the Ultrasound and drinking no water but with the withdrawals, I am so thirsty it is nearly driving me mad. I am wondering if I should just suffer through it tonight and get the Ultrasound done or if I should postpone it for a few more days and hope the withdrawals have died down a bit more by then?

Hi~  Okay...to your question: Don't postpone the ultrasound. I guess it's today,Friday?

I'm surprised you were told "no water" for all that time...but just push through to get the test done. Try chewing some gum...

Hope it works out~

As difficult as things may seem right now, you are in the very beginnings of what could possibly land up in situations like mine and many others.  Please read other posts and realize the dangers of continuing down this path...I have dealt with many difficult situations in life as a minority growing up in the south, but this is the hardest thing I have ever faced in my life and would not wish it upon anyone....if I had to do it over again, I would have just went through the pain pill withdrawals and continued to live my life.  Good Luck and God Bless you.

As far as your question, whenever I am faced with either or situations, I also tend to place my addiction treatment as priority, unless there are life threatening situations elsewhere.  From what I have read and experienced, the withdrawals should last 4-5 days and the worst should be over.

welcome to the forum. as for withdrawals it may get worse. mostly we drink alot of water to stay hydrated as wd's give you the runs. if you don't have the runs you might be able to get through it fine. but as with most suggestions I always say tall to your doctor about how you feel as that's what they are there for. considering the amount you were taking is low as compared to most of us. I'm glad you flushed them long term opiates I don't agree with at all. talk to your doctor to get a non opaite pain med. it will benefit you in the long run.

God bless
