XANAX Withdrawls

XANAX Withdrawls

I am trying to figure out what the symptoms are from quiting Xanax cold turkey and how long they will last. I was recently prescribed 0.25mg tablets of Aprolozam for some anxiety I was having from a stressful event in my life. I took 3 to 4 pills a day for 10 days and when I ran out of pills I thought I would be fine since I had such a low dose. For the past 4 days now I have been anxious again feeling nausea, shaky, weak and tired especially in the mornings. Is this from not taking the Alprolozam anymore?? How long will this last? Thanks

Hello dear,

VERY IMPORTANT: Call your doctor. From what I've heard, one should never EVER quit xanax C/T. I know it's only been 10 days, but just to be on the safe side,  double check w/ your doc. You can die from C/T Xanax withdrawl (withdrawal).

Good Luck,

I called my doctor two says after I stopped taking Xanax and told him i was having the same symptoms again and he prescribed me another 30 pills. After doing research myself I found out about the withdrawls from taking Xanax so I don't want to take anymore, i would rather just suffer than get addicted again. I was just wondering how long I would have to suffer through this. Thanks for the help.

They are right you are not supposed to go off xanax cold turkey.  You should taper down 1/2 pill.  I don't remember the exact number of days to cut pills but it is a process.  I was on Xanax for about five years (terrible anxiety and panic attacks) and I remember having to go slowly off it.  The withdrawl (withdrawal) that I would feel if I forgot to renew my rx was like I was climbing out of my skin.  However, I have been off xanax now for over a year and I don't miss it!  though my attraction to norco is a different story :)  Good luck!!

I know you may want to just "suffer" through it but it is just too dangerous. My husband and I have just seen more than our fair share of patients stroke and even die from benzodiazepine withdrawal. You really need to taper the dose half a pill, to a fourth a pill, you can shave down a pill as much as you want to taper safely and with as little withdrawal as possible.

I have binged on xanax's for the past 35 days.  I was eating them like candy every day-about 10-12 mg a day for about a month.  I thought that only being a month, I would be ok.  Well, of course i've decided I am done and I started going through bad withdrawals.  I am reading everywhere that tapering is the way to go.  I will see my Dr. in two days and I am terribly scared he is going to just cut me off because he has prescribed me 1.5 mg a day.  Can anyone tell me the best thing to do because I seriously doubt my Dr is going to up my dose to accomodate my abuse just to be able to taper at the right level.  I want off bad and I want to to the taper.  Any suggestions about tapering and what foods or drinks to avoid.  I am desperate to get better before I lose everything.

After reading this forum over the past several months I have determined this: everyone's system/body is different and ones response to anxiety and medication is different. No one should EVER stop Xanax cold turkey .... Taper taper taper. It is a Schedule I'VE drug meaning its highly addictive, quickly and can be dangerous. 3 months ago I stupidly started taking Xanax again 3 mg after detoxing 4 years ago (at a hospital but it left me drugged for months). I tapered by halving but you have to be willing to give in to your body and mind if you get overwhelmed. Best bet is let your dr. Help you.

The "ASHTON MANUAL" is available online and is considered the benzo bible. A lifetime of study and research went into this compilation and it is good.

Side note: you might try some whey protein isolate (make sure its isolate, note just whey protein) to help with the withdrawl (withdrawal) symptoms. Drink a scoopful. Let your body be the judge when you start feeling twinges drink another. Get it with Stivia not aspartame. again, don't go off benzos by yourself.
