I have the same problem as you guys, and u know what? I feel that i could quit xanax easily, eventhough i have been taking it for a year and addicted and afraid of withdrawal, i could quit xanax easily if i could pass a month alone without seeing or talking to any person and this is the only way, like staying a month home alone or at a desert or a beach. Quitting xanax is not easy, especially if u have past problems that will knock your mind whenever something bad happens.
Just take it really slowly, at your own pace, a comfortable pace to you..........
If you having problems ask your doctor to cross you over to Valium. They have a much longer half life which should help you somewhat.
If he does cross you over you will find that your dose of Valium will be higher than your Xanax dose, please don't be put off by that, you would probably benefit in the long term.
Good Luck whatever road you choose.
From
Eddy from the UK who is on an extremely slooooooooow Valium taper
with a dose that low you shouldnt feel much w/d at all I just quit taking it at that dose and just couldnt sleep for a week. now is a different story I take 4-5mg a day so I am doin a taper going down .5 every other day
I to have anxiety trouble. I have been on and off the xanax and klonopin for years. I would take it for months everyday. I never had any problems getting off it when it was time. I also took it three times a day. I would just cut back one dose at a time. i would do it kind of slow. I always know when it is time to cut back. It will start to make me sleepy. Thats what it does to me, When I take it and do not need it for the anxiety.
Good luck with it..

Though it's noble of you to quit,my guess is you not sure whenthis may cross that blury line that can be the point of no return,so I'm happy yo're bein aggressive. However according to the AMA Though xanax withdrawl can be dangerous,it's generally recognized that it requires a daily dosage, above what your takig generlly at least 2.5 to 3 continuosly (min 6 to 9 months) So bottom line ...good news everywher..
1.Your quiting,Truth is if you don't need it,why take it
2.You most llikely won't experience anythig physical
3.ask your Dr what he has diagnosed, This would be a good time to intergrate a SSRI
Slow as in months. You can go to benzowithdrawal.com and you can learn how to cut it even slower by compounding it. Put it into a liquid form. Xanax will bite you in the but big time if you stay on it. Don't mess with that one. Some people switch to valium and come off it. Either drug- take it slow. Stay off the lunesta and ambien when you withdraw.
Slow tapers are the way to go .Keep incontact with your doctor .you can always go slower if you need too...
