Hi - You need to follow the ashton manual which is available on the internet. It is very good and very informative and gives you a safe tapering dose and even shows you how to switch from other benzos onto diazapam and then taper. I have found this invaluable and she has been practising for 30 years. Go to benzo.org and follow the links or just type in Ashton withdrawal plan.
Hope this helps
Hey Josh~ The doctor told you to stop the xanax and just take the valium. So,what are the directions on the valium? I have not done this myself...but I know that Valium is a longer acting benzo and most doctors prescribe it for getting off xanax. Can you just do what he said? And just stick to the valium? Or maybe you should call the doctor and
tell him how you feel and ask more questions. I,personally, wouldn't take both but that's just me.

Ok guys i took a .25mg xanax yesterday at 6:30...then i took 10 mgs of valium at 1 am went to sleep by 2 or so and woke up at 5-6am took another 10mg and then nothing allll the way until now i just took another .25 mgs i was feeling really weird and it was almost 24 hours since i had any xanax...am i doing this right or am i doing something wrong ... i dont have a pcp and i dont have insurance but like i said in my previous post i got 30 10mgs of valium to hopefully switch over and then quit but i dont know maybe i'm crazy for thinking that i can do it when my mind and body felt this weird this evening on a positive note i did cut out the 1.5 mgs i took at bedtime however i basically switched to the valium so what would you guys do tonight ? Push it further take less or more ... this is very confusing i've got the willpower i really do i just detoxed off 400mg's of oxycodone 7 weeks ago COLD...this xanax is the last crutch i have ... and the only reason i started taking it again was SLEEP...god i was looking back at my previous posts from a few years back and i was so happy and i was so dead set against relapse and look what happend....i hope to hear some responses thanks!
Hi Josh...xanax is differt then most benzos..it actually has its own brain receptor that it works on it sounds like you tapered off it successfully your down to a low enough dose that the valium should be able to work now...you might be uncomfortable for a few days but your body will adjust to the valium and you should be good to go...many doctors
including my own bring people off xanax this way so I would follow dr orders
good luck and God bless.....Gnarly
Yes none of us are doctors and xanax is highly addictive as you already know .I would ask your doctor to help you make a taper plan .Also addict is right check out the Ashton manual she has excellent taper plans there are some in my journals but I don't think she has them for that high of a dose .I am not sure that thirty will get you off the amount of xanax you are on but its a start.
I keep hearing the zanax is addictive but I have been taking 1mg a day for 6 months with no problems 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night.I have been told its similar to valium
and that you shouldn't stop ct. 6-8 mg is excessive and I can't imagine functioning at that dosage. My prescription was for anxiety caused by chest pain. The chest pain is still there even more severe, after every test known to man,no answer .Recently I was prescribed Neurotin which does help me sleep but I feel like I have a hangover in the morning and my chest hurts worse so i've quit taking them after only 3. Good luck and may God be with you.
We're not exactly doctors on here. This is a "doctor do not read" forum. What's your prescribing Doctor's prognosis?
I do know that the "benzo(dot)org(dot)uk site has all the info from the Ashton manual. Prof. Ashton substitutes Valium to get off of many different benzos because of it's extra long half-life.
