Xanax Withdrawal

Xanax Withdrawal

I have been taking .25 mg Xanax every other night or every night for about 3 to 4 months. I know I am going to withdraw if I stop because I was doing this about 6 months ago (and withdrew and stopped on my own) and then started up again. Am scared to death because the worst of it for me was the suicidal thoughts and thinking I was going crazy. I have no one who can stay up all night and keep me sane because my husband is terminally ill and also addicted to Xanax and he doesn't want to stop. Should I get a doctor's help to stop, even at this low dosage, or try again on my own?

Hi,

I always recommend a doctor's guidance for this type of situation. Xanax can be dangerous to wtihdraw from and never should be done ct. Also, if you are having suicidal thoughts, please discuss that with your doctor. He may be able to prescribe something else for you that is less harmful.

Please take care of yourself.

Am going to the doctor on Thursday and going to a social worker today to talk. Before I can help my husband I have to help myself and for my daughter and grand daughter's sake I have to take care of me. Sad thing is I am scared to death to die so for me to be having suicidal thoughts is even crazier than being crazy!!!! Last time I didn't realize I was withdrawing until I was through 5 days of it and then just kept going. Not sure why I ever put another one in my mouth again. I guess I stupidly thought I could handle it! Kind of like kicking cigarettes...you cannot just smoke one! I guess you cannot just take one, either!

You are an addict and that is what we do. We live by the definition of insanity" Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

At least you know you are not alone.

Really glad to hear you are going to the doctor.

it has been said so many times,1 is to many and 1000 is never enough being an addict i know I can never take another one on my own I wasn't mentally addicted but physically and with benzos it is the same If I even take one it will awaken my brain to the effects, and I'll tell ya I never want to suffer the way I did when I went through withdrawal so if I can't sleep now I read a book, if I am anxious I take l-theanine it is an amino acid and has done wonders for me
