Xanax and Carisoprodol Taper

by Crash_Test_Dummy, Oct 23, 2008 12:43PM
I have been taking Xanax for about a year. Have slowly tapered from four to two .5mg tablets daily. My daily use of Carisoprodol has increased... from two 350mg tabs daily, to 6 or 8. Also using 2 pseudoephedrine 12 hr tabs daily. I can drop the pseudoephedrine most anytime, but have acquired a taste for it. Plus, I have severe sinus issues, and really need it. Have used it for about seven years.

I found myself in this situation by way of Codeine and Hydrocodone to Poppy Pods to Tramadol... the later sending me to the hospital . Stay away from this bad boy! I had amphetamine and valium addictions in the 70's and 80's, kicked both. The valium withdrawal was pretty hard. I have been totally clean until Mr. Cough Syrup containing codeine snuck up on me a few years ago. Ummh... feels good! What's in this cough syrup? Hydrocodone was then added to the list via a legitimate back injury. Then along comes Carisoprodol to assist. This is where I sit now... remembering how good it feels to be clean and clear headed, and not quite sure how to get there. Can anyone please advise?... do I taper both Xanax and Carisoprodol together, or taper one very quickly, while the other takes over, then taper off it. If the later method is better, which do I stop using first.  When I had to go to the hospital for my very awakening tramadol experience, my doctor gave me Xanax, which helped the Tramadol withdrawal. And, ironically, it was the tramadol that helped with the opiate withdrawals. I know these are small amounts to some, but I have tried to stay under control. I have a very addictive personality, and without my common sense could easily go totally out of control. But hey, I'm a comfortably retired grandpa at age 56, and just adore spending time with the kids. Been straight before... very serious about getting and staying that way. Any help is sincerely appreciated.. I'm afraid complete withdrawal is going to be harder on me now than it was to a much younger me in the mid 80's.
