Oh glad to hear that its only .5. Ya as crazin said theres a huggggge different between .5 and 5mg. lol. Well it still doesn't change the fact that you need to discuss this with your doc and taper or swtich to valium if possible. He/She would know whats best for you. Good luck!

Warminup1, I saw your other post where you mentioned that your dose is actually 0.5mg and not 5mg. I posted this on the other thread, but wanted to post here in case you miss it on the other one.

This makes a BIG difference. .5mg is a relatively small dose compared to 5mg. Stopping cold turkey from 5mg could be dangerous due to the possibility of seizures. At .5mg, however, the likelihood of a seizure is very small. I have stopped Xanax cold turkey at .5mg after 6+ months of use and had nothing more than a little anxiety. At the dose you are on, your doctor may want you to half your dose for a while and then discontinue, or he/she may just have you stop altogether now. It really depends on the individual, so I definitely recommend speaking with your doctor about this. Good luck!

Hi there---I totally agree with Addicted2long, and I want to add one thing. Coming off Xanax at that dose is extremely dangerous, because you are at high risk of having grand mal seizures---and every seizure is a dance with death. You MUST taper them down, not quit cold turkey. Talk to your doctor about a taper program. I wish you health!

Hey Warmingup..5mg a xanax is a hugee dose. You should NEVER go coldturkey from this high of a dose as it is deadly. You need to consult with your doctor if you are thinking of quitting and work on tapering down to a lower dose and then possibly switching to valium before jumping off the benzos altogether. Quiting at 5mg a day would be a complete nightmere and your destined to fail. Please talk to your doctor and work out a plan before you stop taking your medicine. Good luck
