a pill habit that's gone too far

It started with monthly pre- and post-op prescriptions for hydrocodone. 2 years later I can't function without them. And I fear that its killing me. My best friend told me last night that I'm scaring her, that "you've gotten bad on those things"......and she's right. Im desperate to no longer be a slave to the evil little things, lortabs. I have her all I had and asked her to only give me so many a day. The plan is too taper, but I guessed at the doses....i was going someone could help me... I take 5-6 10mg hydros ove the course of the day-EVERY DAY. I told her only give me 4/day X2 weeks, then 3/X 2 weeks, and so on. Day one and I'm already anxious from both the drop in dose and the knowing I don't have access to them. I am not in a situation where I can be open and honest about this problem, except with my bff....any suggestions? please?

OMG, are you me? I started taking Tabs a long time ago both post, and pre op, and it just went from there. I have taken no more that 6 a day for the last 3 years, but like you it is everyday without fail, and have recently decided to stop. My wife unfortunately became addicted as well since she had to share my demon, but she is on her 5th week of tapering off now, and doing alright. Seeing her prolonged suffering has helped me decide to go cold turkey though. One week from today I will be clean even if it kills me. Since our stories are kindof similar keep in touch, and maybe we can help each other threw some of the bad days.

HI Welcome to the forum.....well you have come to a good place to share you wont be judged here most of us have been where your at...I have been there and then some
your secrets are safe to voice here we understand addiction over 1/2 the people who come here had some sort of legitimate pain that got them started so your not alone somewhere along the way it just gets away from ya and out of control....we do home detoxes here every day there are people on this board as we speek in the middle of withdrawals your taper sounds like it will work the slower the better you will still feel withdrawals just not as severly as you would jumping off C/T it actually good you gave the pills to someone else to hand out only what you need...stick to your plan tapers dont work if you yo/yo your dose down one day then back up the next you have to push past the discomfort...you may want to pick up a product call highlands restful legs it address the restless leg problem a lot of people get coming off this stuff....some sleepy time tea would be good to have around sleep problems are common...the best thing you can bring to the table is a positive attitude it will take you far in doing this also try not to let fear creep in its always worst in our minds then it actually is...congrats on making the decision to stop keep posting for support read the posts we alll want to see you succeed good luck and God bless......Gnarly
