adderall withdrawl

Have a friend whos son is on Adderall and is going to try and 'wean' over the summer. She wants to know what might happen...I was of no help, then I thought of my friends here...so...I'm asking....what, if any, symptoms should he expect? I believe he's taken it for about two years. I don't know the frequency, probably once a day...he's 15...and, yes, he's one who truly did need something...since he was little...at any rate...doesn't much matter, if they wean him I'm guessing he would be a bit irritable (sp?) sleepy, but managable. These are just guesses, anybody know any other symptoms? Any suggestions? Is it like the narc withdrawl? Should they get some of the Thomas Recipe?

Of course they are going to contact the Dr. and discuss this this week, however, I'm home now, and know who to turn to...(thank you for that)...While they get the medical advice, I can get real human advice.

Thanks for your input and suggestions.

Peace, thank you too..so far so good. I guess he was on XR? so they changed it to the regular one to do a slow taper...he's doing fine..he's mature beyond his years so that's encouraging. It really has helped him redirect his energy...so we'll see...

I will keep you posted. I promise.

Thank you again for taking the time,

I was on Addrerall for well over 10 years, and one day I just stopped taking it all together. I can honestly tell you that the only symptom I had was fatigue for the first couple of days. Other than that, I was completely normal when I decided not to take it any longer. The thing about Adderall is, is that if you're at the age of 15 years old and a doctor is giving it to you for a reason, most likely there's a reason you needed to be on it in the first place. Unless he has been abusing it [which it doesn't sound like he was] then he should be absolutely fine.

Everyone is different, though.. But I figured I'd jump in here and give out some advice when I see that it's needed. Please stay in touch with all of us, and let us know how things are going for them, please!

xoxo.

He will have a lot of fatigue, sleepiness, possible depression and possible irregular heart beats (depending on what dosage he jumps at). A gradual taper would be the best idea.
