addiction and withdrawls

by sherry5035, Nov 09, 2009 09:38AM
I have been on vicodin Es, clonipan, and many antidepessions for 6 years. 3 months ago I decided to get off all of them, one by one. oh my god the withdrawls almost drove me completly crazy, but I stuck to it.now my problem. I turned to alcohol( witch I hate)the first time I got drunk and the last I got a dui. I was so drunk my bac. was .197! I swear I do not remember getting in my car. Thank god for being with me cause nobody was hurt, that was a miracle! Did me getting off all those perscriptions play a part in me turning to alcohol? what the heck happened to me? please somebody help me try to understand this.

Cross addition is very common... You think that if you QUIT doing your DOC.. you can subsitute it with something else.. or something that you don't think or never had a problem with...

Alcohol is a DRUG.. MIND ALTERING SUBSTANCE.. and can lead to very serious consequences...You getting a dui is one of the consequences...

May I suggest that you check out your local AA/NA meetings... and get some support..

and... keep posting as this site has been very helpful to many who are struggling...

Take care and God Bless

This is very common to switch addictions.  I hope you will check into some type of aftercare.  You need to find out why you are numbing yourself up.  Aftercare is very vital in our recovery.  I hope your DUI was a blessing in disquise.  Sometimes it takes this sort of thing to make us realize we are in need of help.  Congrats on getting off the pills!!!  Stick around here as we understand what you are going thru and will be here to support you.........sara

I'm interested in maybe you need to be back on your antidepressants. It sounds like you were having some real emotional pain that was being handled in part by your prescribed medications. I think you need to SLOW DOWN. and get some good advice. I still am having problems with your taking yourself off all your meds like that and making it through those bad withdrawals.

Like sarah says above you do need to realize that you need help. AA/NA, therapy someone else other than yourself to give you some feedback.

Everything can be addictive or used compulsively by an addict. Talk to some people. And great first step by writing a post on this forum. Good work. Stop now. You can easily overdose on alcohol and die of alcohol poisoning.

any mind altering chemical is a drug.  I think we like to say we are "clean" but if stop using vicodins or percs and still smoke pot or use booze we are not really clean.
progress not profection.
Hang in there.
