after 3 yrs of heavy opiate use, how long does WD syptoms last?

I have been taking Hydro 10/650 for 3 yrs, gradually built up to an obscene amount daily. I did some research online and opted not to use Suboxone, quit cold turkey. I fessed up to my wife, curled up in a ball to ride the storm out. I am now on day 5 and have been through some wierd things. Taste and smell was off for couple of days. I also, on day 2 went to family Dr. (that delivered our children 16 and 20 yrs ago) and told him, absolutely humiliating but he gave me Clonidine. My question is, how long before my arms and legs feel normal again.
This forum and others have helped me through some long days and nights lately. I have been watching from the outside. Thank everyone that has contributed, it has been inspiring.  I know the physical WD is the easy part, so I decided to see if I could join the group for strength. Thanks again to all.

Many people here have taken the Hylands (thats the brand name) and gotten relief.  Being honest and holding ourselves accountable is necessary in our recovery.  I am really happy that you have done this!!!   We are very lucky to still be alive and our bodies are very forgiving......Be good to yourself.       sara

I have been taking hydromorphone (dilaudid) and hydromorphone contin (slow release) for 3 years.

I was wondering if anyone one would know what would be considered heavy use? I'm trying to decide how to get off of the meds and I'm not sure what category I would fall in. I have heard that subuxone is not good for heavy opiate use, but I'm not sure if that applies to my levels.

I take 100mg dilaudid/day and 60mg of hydromorphone contin/day.

Any suggestions? Methadone, suboxone, cold turkey? I went cold turkey years ago off of oxycontins, but I don't think I could do that again.

Hi Fassfeat! So glad you are coming along so great, me too. And I quit smoking as well, so, good for us! I had a rough day two days ago - I still don't know what the HELL that was, but whatever. But today by far has been the BEST day, the best morning I have had so far.  Glad you're doing so good.

Me too, I have been NO fan for ever, it was so good for them to finally win out last year. I like Farve and to the Vikings too, they almost cost us the championship last year.  I appreciate all your input. You have helped me alot, you and Vicki595. I am also going to see my son inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars tomorrow, Saturday going to their 1st home game SFA SU Lumberjacks. Life is good, I hve enjoying laughing and quit being so negative. It is truelly a second go. Thanks

I had my first real test today. I am on Day 8 of being clean. I was cleaning and organizing the house and out rolls a  Lorcet 10/650, my Doc. I picked it up looked at it and was able to go flush it before dwelling on it too long. I looked the devil in the eye today, I am calling victory on day 8. Had to share.  God Bless All

Today is day 7!!!! It is getting better by the day. I got up early this morning and walked for full 30 minutes. Yesterday I went to church (the walls didn't fall) that I was raised in (Over the years I have always visited several times to pacify my wife) The preacher spoke directly to me. His message was "You are being tried by fire, the hardest thing you have ever been through, BUT SOMETHING GOOD IS GOING TO COME OF IT. I know that he was speaking to others as well, but when he got through, I went down to the front and layed it on the alter. Everyone in the church (most of which watched me grow up and have no clue that I am an addict as I have always been in upper management) came down and prayed with me. I had a break through. I broke down and asked God for forgiveness. I felt sooo good afterwards. I am even giving up my tobacco habit. I quit smoking 6-7 years ago but have always held on to skoal. Well I figure if you are going to clean up, why not go all the way. I am addressing this to you two ladies because you were first responders for me, and I will always appreciate it. I continue to broaden my support group (accountability) and everything I do throughout the day, I am trying to tweak it slowly so that all my habits are different going forward.
I forgot to say when I was walking this morning, I could smell the sweet smells of fresh cut grass and hear the various insects at work etc. What a beautiful world without Drugs. Sorry so long, but I wanted to share the good stuff happening in my life,, and to Thank You both again. Have a great Labor day.
I am protecting my clean time. Andrew
