Good Morning, I'm sure age does make a differnce, your system is more sensitive, and your more likley to suffer side effects. Please have your doctor help you with this, that way he can give you medicine to help and to keep your blood pressure under control.Best of luck, Debbie

Sorry to butt in on this thread but I really need some help right now. I came to this site last September looking for help getting off of oxycontin. I'm glad to inform you all that I successfully quit and haven't touched the **** since then....but I soon picked up another habit-Lorcets. Before I knew it I was up to 4 a day when I found out I was pregnant. I was 3 months when I found out and since then I tapered down to 3 for a little while, then to 2, then to 1, then to 1/2 and now I'm down to nothing. I took my last 1/2 last Friday. I'm 28 weeks pregnant now. I know I should've told my dr. but I was so scared that my baby would be taken away from me when I delivered. I've heard so many horror stories of babies being taken away from mothers and I just did not want that to happen to me. I was wondering if my baby will still go through withdrawals when he is born? I'm so scared of the damage I've done to my little man. Does anyone know what effects this could have on him? Any light shed on this matter will be greatly appreciated. I'm just so scared.

Hi, I think you will be OK. Where did you get the lortab? If it was from a doctor than I don't see how they could take your baby away. Do you have an OB/GYN? I would tell them that a doctor put you on them and you are having trouble getting off of them. That is not your fault! You need to go to a doctor! If you are afraid to tell your doctor, get or go to another one and tell them you have a doc that has givin you them and need help getting off. You need to do this because they may need to wean you slower than what you may be doing, plus, they may give you something to ease the discomfort! You didn't know you were pregnant before and now you are trying to get help right away! As far as the baby goes, If you stop them now the baby will go through the withdrawel now not 6 mos from now.My sister's sister in law went through something like this but she was on something stronger and she was told the same and as far as I know her baby was and is fine. Best of luck  KIMH

Just so you know, there are women who are on methadone maintenance and they have had babies that were born not dependent.  And, they were on methadone during the whole pregnancy (which is the proper course of action by the way).  It is worse for the baby for someone to withdraw from a methadone dependency during pregnancy.  Like Kim said, go see a doctor and have him wean you down.  They won't take your baby away.  And, your baby will be fine.  Just do the right thing, that's all.

Good for you sweetie!you got off those demons before they could harm you or your baby!!It will be just fine!Just take care of yourself and dont worry about it!You stopped soon enough..I'm sooooooooooo proud of you!!And congradulations on a job well done.Just go forward and dont look back..Love ya..Jerri

Sorry.  I just re-read you are done with them.  Stay that way and you will be fine.  So will your baby.  People take opiates in some cases throughout their whole pregnancy with no adverse effects at all on the unborn child.  You were only taking four a day.  That is really small potatos.  And, you did the right thing.  Please, stop beating yourself up.  Everything will be fine.

i hope that you will go to one of the other boards and post there once this board is closed down... i found it very interesting to read you post about age. you already got a good reply from the doc so i won't reiterate what he suggested. addiction certainly is no respecter of age or anything else.

and jennypete, i did post back to you when i read your original post as did several other people if i remember correctly. glad to hear that you are still off of the pills, you and baby will be fine if you stay off of them! really! i hope to see you on the other boards too!!

peace,

amber

sorry about the conflict of persoality...speaking only for myself, i'm the kind of person that likes to push the situation sometimes... i don't really care who is right or wrong when this happens...the only reasion why i bring this up now is that med help was the only "common ground" we share. allow me to say i do respect your knowledge and regret whatever it was we had to butt heads about...

you (and everyone else on this forum) will forever be in my prayers

Man that is so cool. Ive met so many musicians it's like we are all addicts. I have been playing in this college town here in Bama since I was a teenager. I remember playing Freebird when it was on an album and just released. I still hear the drunks in the back of the club at closing time yelling  FREEBIRD GODDDAMN IT!
It never fails. Anyway my email address is ***@****   lets swap stories.
