Dem, I wouldn't lose sleep over drinking half a margarita. You're not a drinker, so I think you're okay. Just wouldn't do it again because of the cautionary tales we've been reading here! I didn't know that ETOH can make you crave your DOC----this place is a real education! And yes, alcoholics who are trying to stay sober need to watch any source of alcohol, including vanilla extract--though I don't think there'd be any ETOH due to heating baked goods in the oven--but maybe when it's not degraded by heat, like in a drink or something.....yep, even mouthwash, aftershave, etc. is off limits.
I am so happy for you with all that clean time! You go, girl......
really.. you check even the vanilla extract label ? ok, it is up to each one and i respect each decision but i don't see it that way... my limit is only one drink and only once or twice per month,.. sometimes i don't drink any alcohol in a month and so far, i haven't had any problems with this. But i see where are you going, opening a gate is always a danger and i would not advice any one to drink even one when going out cause this one could be the first and not the last .
Never touch a drop of alcohol again. That means check the labels of everything, even vanilla exstract used in baking, no joke. You will fall into a trap thinking just a bit of alcohol won't hurt me. That is a recipe for disaster for a former addict.
You will be there before you know it......just take it one day at a time.
Thanks to all!! I am feeling better everyday. Just cant wait to see 60 day mark.
No you should be fine. Just be careful tho as it is really easy to switch up addictions at this point. Best to just stay away from everything. sara
No your fine. But your right in avoiding any mind/mood altering substance.
Just put it behind you and steer clear of it because yes, booze can make you crave you DOC. But I don't think 1/2 drink set you back in the healing process. Use this experience to come up with a way to avoid it in the future "the stuff gives me heartburn" Or "no, it gives me a headache" whatever excuse you want. Don't sweat this, just learn from it so you can face similar situations in the future. :)
Yea it can cause you to want your drug of choose even more. Alcohol is a drug in order to recover you must stay away from alcohol.
