alcohol and relapse

by gizzy32, Dec 26, 2007 09:19AM
during the dozens of times i tried to get clean there were many factors that contributed to my relapsing, but alcohol was always the number one cause. i am not an alcoholic by any means, but it always seemed that when i had even a couple beers, that craving for coke came so hard and so fast, i broke down and used everytime.  im clean now from cocaine 46 days, and during this time i refused to drink, cause it scared me, well last night i put myself to the ultimate test. during our family gathering i thought what the hell, ill have a few beer,  well about 6 beer, and about 10 shots of tequila, and fireball later, nothing happened, i mean there was absolutely no craving for cocaine whatsoever. for me this was absolutely huge, because i realize i have prevailed in my fight to stay clean. i put myself to the ultimate test, and i came out on top.  I WIN I  WIN I WIN.  i can now say i have won my battle, and i know without a shadow of a doubt, i will never touch that **** again. I WIN.  does anyone here find that alcohol contributes to relapse

You say your not an alcoholic by any means. You sound like my sister. She says she's not an alcoholic she just drinks to much. 10 shots of Tequilla, how could anyone think you have a drinking problem. Just thinking of that makes me feel hungover.

so because  i had a lot to drink over the course of 8 hours, i'm an alcoholic, give me a break, guess that means my uncle, my dad, my cousins, and my mom, who drinks maybe once or twice a year is an alcoholic too. i am not an alcoholic whatsoever. if drinking a little too much once or twice a year makes me an alcoholic then i guess 95% of the population is. i'm sorry but these comments are a joke, just because someone is an addict dosen't mean they are an alcoholic. wake up

I guess I"m confused on your definition of clean. " I had 6 beers and 10 shots of tequila and realized that I"d prevailed in my fight to stay clean". ?

dude if you drank that much and didnt puke you obviously drink more than you are telling us. :You are in total denial,if you think that just because you made it one time drinking without doing coke you have got your problem beat you are mistaken friend. I to wanted coke when I drank. There were times when I didnt want it and there are times when I drink now that I want it but I don't. It has been 6 years since I have done coke maybe more.

alcohol or drugs, they are one of the same.
Use either one and you are not clean and start at day one again.
I'm glad you did not do coke, but like hopsing said, if you kept all that booze down you have a heck of a tolerance.

Addiction is addiction is addiction.
You are the one in the addiction forum???

People drink. and I have said it once and I will say it again if someone can controll things in their life and not be ADDICTED as people say then let them. There was nothing wrong with him drinking on Christmas with his family. Maybe he did drink to much but give him some support for not doing Cocaine, His addiction was to Cocaine not Alcohol. And saying just because he drank 18 drinks is like saying that every college student in america is an Alcoholic.

" tried to get clean there were many factors that contributed to my relapsing, but alcohol was always the number one cause."

Then why would you drink? You said it yourself when you drank

"i broke down and used everytime"

You really didn't come here looking for encourgement to drink did you? I think maybe you should stay away from the booze for a couple of more months...and do a little more thinking on the subject before you put your clean time (from cocaine) in jeopardy again.

Congratulations on the 46 days

Besides the different views on drinking and where he stands because of it, one thing in his post really worried me.  When he said "i can now say i have won my battle".  It is when we say we've won and we're cured that we let our guard down and that's when things happen.  It is a battle we have to keep fighting - forever.

No one can tell you that you are an alcoholic.  You will figure it out for yourself if you are willing.

Also, it's not how much or how long you've drank.  It's what happens to you when you drink.

OMG, this is one of my first posts on this site when I got here a year and a half ago, lol. I feel like kicking my own *** for this post. I was barely a month clean and thought I had beat this battle, talk about stubborness and stupidity. I was so happy to have been able to drink and not crave coke and thought it was ok, uggggg. To read this post of mine this morning just makes me shake my head at myself back then cause I didn't understand addiction at this point, but have come a long way. I took a beating for this post I remember, but it's a post that changed my road to recovery. I HAVENT" WON, I HAVEN"T WON, lol. I am not an alcoholic though, but alcohol is a drug and I chose to no longer drink. Took me long enough to decide that huh?

I can appreciate this post..lol Just goes to show how our brains can 'trick" us into believing the UNBELIEVABLE. i am not an alcholic but choose not to drink even using i didn't drink?? I haven't drank in years (wish I could say the same for opiates & benzos) but Believe it could easily become a substitution for other things so I'm not even gonna go there! Tahnks for pulling this post up I got a good chuckle...lol

I never pulled this post up, I saw it pulled up when I woke up, lol. It was good to see though, but a lil embarassing how I thought about addiction back then, I sound like an idiot, haha.

Congrats on your clean time Daisy!

I don't think we actually ever win this battle, we just beat the enemy back and keep our        Guard UP!!!

Gizzy, it has taken some of us much, much, more than a year and a half.

Congratulations to you.........you have come a long way, and helped many during this time!!!!

I have to disagree with ya Gizz........after all that booze I wouldn't be able to fold a dollar bill, let alone ....roll one up....lol.  Ino, bad......but, I agree that you are probably not an alcoholic, but that you associate one drug with the other.  That being said.....alcohol may not be the best choice for you, in that you very well can turn into an alcoholic because of the association......did that makes sense?.....I just woke up and a cr@ppy cup of coffee doesn't help.  God, my mom makes horrible coffee.......oiy.

Also, after 6 beers and 10 shots of tequila and whatever the fireball thing is....there are some that may dispute your "I'm not an alcoholic" statement.  That's a whole lotta booze-a......!    Aspirin Please !!!.....lol

Nauty........

Oh Shietz !!!   This is an old post..........Well, now that its brought up again....You have to drink six beers and 10 shots of tequila and that fireball thing all over again......haa

oiy!
