alcohol w. methadone detox?

hi- im kinda new here, im going thru methadone detox doing it myself_ ive been at the clinic for 3 yrs, i have 30 day take homes & been detoxing myself_ im now down to 5. (from 25).  im really doing this for my husband & for $$ reasons, if it was my choice i wud probably take the easy route... but i DO really want to be off this sh*%.  ive been clean for years & don't need to use methadone as a crutch, but its so easy.. anyways im getting WDs, it hasn't been THAT bad yet (nothing like when i was kicking pills) but im wondering if alcohol is ok to take the edge off? i just want to feel better, & want something to help.

Never use alcohol with any ammount of methadone is correct not that I'm a doctor. The People who commented here thought she was already off completely.

Wow..I honestly wouldn't mix alcohol with methadone..I'm surprised some people are telling you to go ahead..

Hey, when i get stressed a beer helps, glass of wine, no hard stuff. Sometimes you just need to feel like you can do something, even if it is just a beer, one wouldnt hurt helps you sleep.  I know they say on here not to drink a beer, but, its better than taking a pill.  Just my opinion.

Definitely be careful with the alcohol.  I also tried, early on, to have a glass of wine thinking it would help me.  I couldn't have been more wrong.  It only magnified the symptoms and gave me a headache.  So I've stayed away from it to be safe.

And you also run the risk of trading one addiction for another so I think overall it's just a bad idea.  Good luck to you! :)

Sorry we are not allowed to give medical advice. Personal experience yes. Alcohol is a depressant the same as Methadone is. I have a beer now and then and maybe a shot occasionally. I wouldn't recommend gettting shitfaced. One drink never killed me however. More people will post. It's your decision no one elses. Lucky you 30 day take homes, of course I've only been in methadone treatment for 1 1/2 yrs. Devel in disguise I must say, they will only taper me 2 mg/2wks, only get weekend take homes and mon, wed, fri, take homes. WDs *****! There are easy route, I am having problems with this taper. Be careful with the alcohol. I was thinking the same thing and had a glass of wine. It made my withdrawals so much worse, so I didn't make that mistake twice.
Everyone is different, so try a half of a beer or wine, I wouldn't recommend hard liquor. Too much alcohol can be hard on the body, especially when going thru wd's. Best Wishes :)
