allergic to alcohol

Hello.  One of my fraternity brothers whose father is an alcoholic refuses to drink (which I feel is admirable).  However he says the reason for this is that he is allergic to alcohol to the point that he would die or get very sick if he drank.  He says that he is allergic to hops which is why he doesnt drink beer and that he is allergic to plain alcohol which is why he doesnt drink anything else.  I have suffered from allergies all of my life and have only heard the term "allergic to alcohol" used people who come from alcoholic families to convince them not to drink. He has no Asian ancestory.  If you know anything about this please let me know.  Thank you very much.

Why don't you just accept the fact that he doesn't want to drink, period! He should not have to give explanations. I wish I could just say I don't want to drink anymore and be done with it!
