alprozolam abuse

i have been abusing alprozolam for last 10 years or 12years,in doses of 20 mgs per day along with diazepam 50 mhs per day, i need to get off this please opine and suggest stategy to withdraw from it i have the motivation.

That's a lot of xanax and valium. You will need serious medical help to get off these doses. all the best

That was my drug of choice.. and I have just got myself off it and am now 9 days clean. It is very important that you do not stop it completely as this could result in seizures. I suggest you taper off it very slowly. I would recommend that you start my halving the alprozolam from 20mg to 10mg for at least 1 week and slowly cut down on the diazepam also. By the second week you should halve both doses again and do the same on the third.. by the fourth week you should not be taking anything at all. During this time of tapering you will be withdrawing.. it is not pleasant obviously but it it worth it in the end.. the physical side of withdrawing will be loss of appetite, taste, smell, shakes, fuzzy head and slightly off balanced but you will feel much better by the third week on the taper plan.. if you like you can send me a private message if you want to discuss this further.. good luck and well done!

I do know you can not stop that drug abruptly....was not my DOC but there are people on here with that DOC...that one has to be tapered....can the doc who prescribed them help or is that not an option?  I do know a member who is recently clean from benzos...she will post soon
