I know exactly how you are feeling. Severe anxiety can make you become agraphobic. (not wanting to leave the house) That choking sensation, heart palpatations, shaking...those darn anxiety attacks. Have you talked to your dr. about this? Some of the new anti-depressants can help with anxiety. So I guess I wonder if your problem is that you feel you are hooked on benzos, or, you have a true anxiety problem. In any case, please make a dr. appt and talk about the anxiety, since you said it is getting worse. Don't let it ruin your life.
The only anxiety Meds I know of are the narcotics and buspar , and that has not worked for me in the past . The anxiety arawak seem to be getting worse .I have been just taking deep breaths and stuff to try and work threw them. I won't drive or leave the house I beleive I'm going to die. Anyway do you know of any other mess that are non narcotic that might be helpful.
There are other drugs for anxiety other than the benzos. Have you asked your dr. about alternative meds? And if you truly have an anxiety disorder, please seek treatment for that...it's out there. Don't be embarrassed about it at all.
I have and I have gone to n/a meetings. Maybe I'm looking for a miracle cure. I really feel like there is noway I should ever think I need this stuff . After all its suppose to be mind over matter. I find myself saying well maybe if I let my husband dish them out to me it might work, but I know that's just a cracker jack way to get back to them.

I can only suggest a good aftercare plan. The mental cravings are often worse than the physical. You need to deal with the mental aspect in a positive way. Have you considered counseling?
