Broke my tooth last night(hurt so bad)don't have insurance  so paid2o2to  the dentist  today .Of course was given a script  of30lortab10s.Well I actually had my husband take my script to the pharmacy at3left it there cause they close at6.My mother n law gave me3of hers.Did this all on purpose but Im proud to say all day since2pm I broke them n half instead of taking whole ones cause I wanted to c what helped&not get high at all.So Im taking antibiotics of course and only taken2&1/2since2today .Im not gonna lie Im still n pain but Im really proud of myself and I couldve gotten  a bunch from my mil.I can't believe  I have will power&no urge to get high.Im gonna call n the moring2have them call me n a lower dose instead of the10's.Have them cancel the script for those.My how my life has changed cause300+days ago those30whould  b gone n3-3-1/2days.U will get some will power back as time.goes on.if urge really determined.what OTC meds will help n addition to the tabs .Motrin  maybe

Hey...long time no talk... :)  sorry bout these back to back dramas coming at you these past days. It seems like you are handling it right. At least you are very aware of what you are doing and all the implications that come with using more than prescribed....So u r doing great taking less!

Just get off them as fast as possible even if you need to deal with a bit of pain now...cuz abusing causes alot more pain in the future.

Just an update.I got a rordol shot this afternoon and it actually helped.I was offered one n the e.r. said no thinking it was pointless because I had heard they didnt do anything but my husband got one it helped&my MIL gets them regularly(I didnt know that she said when she gets them they help&she takes a lot less pain meds4a day or two)she took me2her primary care dr after hours place.Im shocked.Havent taken n e meds since&can deal.I got pills from e.r. took1didnt help.Big difference n a shot&pills.I realized all the people who told me yrs ago tordol was crap were drug users.I guess they meant it doesnt get u high cause it did help me.Dr. said keep taking the tordol as prescribed they will help.Im getting a lot more faith n non narcotic pain relief&will4get what Ive been told n the past cause I need to think of the drug addicted sources.Please keep me n your prayers that this shot&continuing2take the pills will b enough relief I wont have2take anymore opiates.I hate even taking half&feeling like a failure.I know Im doing my best but Im still disappointed n myself.All of u have been great though.

Wow!  I'm sorry about all this.  I understand tooth pain.  It is HORRIBLE misery.  Just be sure your hubby keeps the pills.  That is the best safety precaution.  And taking the ibuprofen too will help.  I'm sure sorry this happened!

Thanx mark.I appreciate ur words.I feel like lm doing great Rob has them and he is really impressed and proud too.I know everyone has the best intentions here but I do feel like people saying take none right after a car wreck&maybe Im being a little sensitive but I feel like a couple r trying2say if I take any Im gonna just automatically relapse&go nuts.I may b reading2much n2it.I just want everyone2know a relapse for me isnt just oopsie.I never want2b that person again she was just a loser.I wont lose my marriage to just get high&I will if I go backwards.Even more important.I love all the fun,memories&experiences I have everyday w/my son.I like remembering lol.I love my mom but I refuse to b like her when I was a teenager(lost the"love of her life"2prison which in itself its pathetic2me now)when I was13then she got wasted all the time then hystrecromy&breast.cancer stayed wasted I had2take care of her.She was way past remission still wasted daily til I was21&@14-17selling her pills while she laid there Id count them oit take the money etc.I will never b that person.Now sober I have so much resentment4stuff since I was4yrs old4the awful,dangerous situations she put us n4the men she was with&I will never do that2my kid or miss being present&consistant n his life&I.dnt want him2ever feel like Im not there.clear headed+will keep him safe.Anyway Im keeping my eyes wide open.

HEY girl no reason to be a pain martyr your using responsible it not like your getting high on them just be mindful of where this can go that thought alone can keep you from abusing there will be times where all of us need paion control I give mine to my wife to hold and hand out I dont even see the bottole or when im supose to get them she says I ask for them well past the point where I can have them that and no refiles  for me I was a binger I took 6 to 8 at a time so 1 dose nothing for me but kill the pain I have been lucky to only have to use them 2 times since I have been clean hang in there your being cautious your going to be fine I hope your pain breaks I will praty for you......Gnarly

Way to go! You stayed strong through a painful experience. I had some crazy tooth pain awhile back and took antibiotics and dexamethasone. The dex worked amazingly well in settling the pain within 30 minutes. Unfortunately it's not commonly prescribed for tooth pain but I specifically asked for the opioid alternative and that's what she gave me.

Sry lost my train of thought getting angry about my mom I was saying is my nephew was fine with otc meds with a broken arm n3places.from skating on a half pipe.Worst part was my oldest sister telling me my now recovering addict.sister back then was begging her for her13yr old nephews script which was a paper script she even cried.My oldest sister who is disgusted by pill abuse got so mad she didnt talk2her again for almost a year.
If a13yr old can deal come on so can I.If my sister.can quit and stay sober almost2yrs now so can I.We all can.

@snakejones.im blessed ive had1cavity&1broken tooth n30yrs I dont eat candy like that am a little ocd about my dental care3times a day pre rinse,brushing with a timer,floss&mouthwash.It just happened.I AM KEEPING MY GAURD UP.Les today than yesterday.I just remembered@13my nephew broke his arm n3places.cast from shoulder down.they gave his mom a.script.of lortabs.this is my never had an issue or hardly ever takes pills not a fan after.seeing my other sister before she got sober knowing my mom does them(not really opiates)but saw my mom high on soma like.shaking cant talk etc. all the time for a few yrs and xanax too instead of.dealing with what was obviously depression.Also she and honestly now that im sober me think mom had a lot to do with mine and my other sisters issues with pills(although all of them including the one whos.been clean almost2yrs after almost dying say ive never been like that to me we had different bottoms but an addict is an addict)anyway my mom gave then sold us pills and our friends.I feel like i made my own choices but im mad as h e l l when my sister was such a mess my mom would gossip to ke and my other sister about how my recovering addict sister was at the time so strung out but would sell her pills at the same time.justifying it by saying she would get them somewhere else&my mom needed to pay the bills.Disgusting.And at17she was selling2my friends.Of course at.the time we though oh cool.now disgusting.sry thats another subject.I might post about that n a new thread.Anyway I c my path and wont stray.I have way too much to lose,these pills have LONG ago lost there appeal.

Thanx for all the support,encouragement and warnings.Im convinced I wont need any opites when I get the tooth.pulled Im listening to all ur stories if u can do it I can too.My pain is my back and neck from the car accident but i wont let myself think anything except its a.few days it agitated my old  injuries.Its pouring rain for2days3more to come that always puts me n pain.The tordol didnt help at all but I got some i guess prescription really strong ibeprofen from my mil.Im taking2of those half a lortab hot bath when the pains so unbearable3times today when I was crying so thats good n my eyes.I also have been using a heating pad constantly taking an extra60mg cymbalta my dr said to so I have been since.the car accident.They have helped with my pain so double up I am hoping tomorrow I will get a little more relief from them as thats when the dr said.the extra will start to help.Hopefully by sunday I can report no opiates from then on.

Good for you for being so cautious!!  The Motrin should help the pain.  Tooth pain can be terrible.  You can also alternate the motrin with Extra Strength Tylenol and that may help a bit more.  And ice!!  Don't underestimate how much ice helps.

I've had a couple of teeth pulled and honestly, it's no big deal.  I actually got one pulled two weeks ago.  It had been a long time since the last one I had pulled and for some reason, I had huge anxiety over it.  I was convinced it was going to be painful.  So I got myself all worked up for a big nothing.  I took 800 mg of ibuprofen before I went and when I got home, I iced it.  I alternated the ibuprofen and tylenol and I really kept up with the ice.  For the first 24 hours I iced for 20 minutes every hour.  I had zero pain and no swelling or bruising.  I think the ice made a huge difference.

I've also had root canals with no lidocaine or pain meds for after and had a few other teeth pulled and not needed anything.  (And I'm convinced the trouble I had/have with my teeth are related to being on narcotics.  I didn't have a cavity until I was 30.)

My daughter also got 4 wisdom teeth removed at once and only needed ibuprofen and Tylenol.  My next door neighbor had open heart surgery for replacement of a valve and all he took was Tylenol.  I always try to remind myself of that; that if someone can have that type of surgery and only need Tylenol, I can surely manage with ice and tylenol and ibuprofen.

scary     watch out for all of this.It has been a very long time since you used so you know you will start out at a very low level and your of course going to feel like -hey I am doing great-nothing like I was before this is no problem-then it becomes one.I hear toradol is a great pain med.You should research it.I would just take the toradol and motrin and not start this back up  for something this small.Sorry but that is just what I would do.   I had a dying tooth(root) and I refused the tabs.I also had a teeth pulled and they did not even offer pain meds other than motrin.I was fine the next day.   Not saying I am holier than though at all   just seen this happen so many times.

All trams do is from what I hear give u awful incredibly long w\d.I took them a long time ago.Before I ever abused opiates.They gave no pain relief&I slept like 14hrs.made mo.so.tired.Throw those away there pointless if u keep taking them from what I hear u will dream of the opiate w/d.c-t compared to those.I have around300days clean so yes u r just out of withdrawl so please please b careful.can u have someone hold and dispense them to u?thats a great idea.try not to stay on them a minute longer than absolutely necessary.Try the otc meds people suggest here n between doses if it helps at all try taking that instead of tabs sometimes

I think your doing what you have to do. It always seems like things happen once we get clean. I know for me when I was taking pills nothing every went wrong when I wish it were sometimes so I could get a script. Lol and now that I'm trying my hardest all these things keep happening and scrips are getting thrown at me left and right! Do what you have to do. Good for you for taking as low as dose as possible I'm doing the same thing. Just enough to take the edge off. I don't want to end up back where I was and I'm sure you don't either. It hasn't been long enough for me so it wouldn't take much. I just have to keep my gaurs up as do you. Tooth pain and back pain are the worst. I never take mine on a schedule i make sure I actually need one before I take 1 and only after I have taken a Motrin a naproxen or a Toradol to see if one of those will help first! I also have tramadol but they don't seem to do anything for me. Good luck!

Hey.1st thanx everyone .I got those really  strong  motrin  from my MIL so I didn't have2pay4it .I actually  did call&check  the price difference cause my hubby suggested that no there is like a couple dollar difference so I picked up the 10's.He is holding them but it was at my insistence because said"u r doing fine w/what my mom gave u Im positive u will b o.k.".I snickered &said"babe I feel proud of myself NOW,YES I handled3not a bottle&I just don't wanna risk it".He is proud.BUT ur NOT gonna believe this but on my life got n2a car accident2day.R u KIDDING ME!Well this moron woman backed n2us@a red light n a left turning  lane she was n a really  big,new Mercedes suv thing(not gonna go n2how she tried2scam&screw us&wouldn't give her insurance info).Anyway I drive a lil  Honda she was a few feet n front of us she obviously didn't look she went n reverse ran n24hours&up our hood .My back is as bad as it was n07when I first got hurt.Hubbys knee went n2the steering column right underneath is all broke.E.R.we went of course they give me script  of45-10mg tabs+30soma(told me2c my Dr2check.up&if I couldn't c him soon I can get a refill).I said to the doctor  who I assumed heard when I told the nurse I have a script from the dentist&that info as well as"I wrote n my info but Ill tell u I took&eventually abused lortab".Couldn't b clearer I thought photos.The Dr asked details of that&said well u quit,u have it under control,u need these right now".So my hubby took the scripts put them up.Im pissed about this a little  but understand she was trying2help .I have NO intention at all of getting  those filled.I got30from the dentist.Im hurting  bad but it takes a lot less than 300days ago2feel  better A LOT less

Will you have the tooth pulled since you have no insurance, or are you planning to crown/root canal it? I am so proud of you and glad you are at least getting some relief. Tooth pain can really be awful. Although pain medicine is one of the cheapest things there is, you might ask the pharmacy first what the price difference would be between the 10's and the lower dose. If there's no appreciative $$ difference and if you feel you can trust yourself to continue taking small amounts (or have a family member hold and dispense them), you could cut them in half. Now, if you cut them you'd also be shorting yourself a little with the Tylenol component in L-10's, but you can take a single plain Tylenol 325 or a 500 with it if you desire. The Motrin idea is wonderful unless you are having the tooth pulled, as it can make you bleed more. Ibuprofen (and also Aleve) are superior to Tylenol in that they are anti-inflammatories and help the pain more.

I hate tooth pain...have had  a lot of problems with tooth issues as well.....sounds like you got this under control and won't be in too much danger off relapse.....although it has been goin' around a lot lately....caught a case of it myself....relapse that is ........and Ibuprofen would probably help as it will help reduce inflamation(sp?).....i'll send prayers for a quick recovery your way........peace.......
