can dxm cause ear infection?

My son has been abusing cough medicine.  He somehow extracts the dxm with chemicals and lemon juice to make "agent lemon."  This week he complained of an earache.  I'm wondering if the dxm or the chemicals could have damaged his throat/eustation tubes or set him up for an infection.

I really dont know the "correct" answer here but I can say that anytime we abuse drugs and ingest chemicals "YES" anything can happen--He needs to stop now and be greatfull that an ear infection is the worse he got.

You should be more concerned that he is abusing drugs rather than having an ear ache. I don't know how old he is but if he is going through the process of extracting cough syrup, he is has a serious problem. Yes I have to say I would not worry about where an ear infection came from DXM  is abused by many teenagers and it kills many as well .How old is he .I would get him in rehab asap

DMX today and maybe oxy, heroin etc; tomorrow he needs to get some help for his addiction now.

Yes, I AM very concerned.  Over the past year, he has been to hospital and out-patient therapy.  Just wondering if ear infection is known to be related to dxm use.  As you know, very hard to make an 18 yr old stop drugs.  Thank you for comments
