chest discomfort from detoxing cold turkey from methadone

by shynelle, Jun 11, 2007 12:00AM
Is it dangerous to stop taking methadone cold turkey after using it everyday for 1 1/2 months? Is chest discomfort a normal reaction or should I get checked?

Well, I don't think it is dangerous...I expereinced chest pain when I stopped Oxy's after taking them for three years straight. What is it that you feel exactly..

i think some of that is you getting worked up and thinking it may be dangerous.  if it gets worse or un bareable..go to a dr. but i think most of us have had that problem..hard to breath feels like someone is sitting on your chest..that kinda thing.

I felt like my rib cage came loose inside... felt weird.  I had pains I didn't know I had but I was OK.  If you're having chest pains... any health care professional will tell you to go get it checked out (i'm not one), but if you don't, keep a cell phone charged and close.

i havnt went to the doctor but my mother thinks i should go. what really scares me is that my older brother just died. he was on methadome for three years and up to 250 mg. i am not that bad but the doctor put him on saboxin (suboxone) and then he had a heart attach at 21. i dont want that to happen to me.

After reading your post about your brother, it wouldn't hurt to have it checked. It is better to be on the safe side. I am very sorry for the loss of your brother and know the pain you are feeling. I lost my eldest brother and to this day, it hurts to think about it.

Bless,
Tim

yes i agree its hard to tell whats a wd's or really serious. and your the only one that knows how YOU feel. yeah have a dr check you out as soon as you can. there can be certian risks with wd's but with your brother and his problem..maybe you should really see a dr. then let us know ok..thats you ok and all is fine. good luck and i so hope this works out for you.
