clinic says the feeling in my mouth is in my head

I have been in the clinic on methadone for a little over 90 days now and i am on 110mg a day . Since starting i have noticed that i wake up with dry mouth and when i eat everything has no taste and i have the same taste or feeling in my mouth no matter what i eat. I asked the nurses and they tell me they have never heard of that and its not the methadone. Am i imagining this or has anyone else had this issue? Also my teeth hurt and i noticed that they are wearing flat on the top, Is this all a side effect of the drug? I was on a serious dose of Norco for about 15 years to the point my kidneys have been damaged . It all is from breaking my back in 4 places and being put back together again, I have not touched a pill since starting and want to stop dosing but dont know how to beat the pain without pills any suggestions? Ive been thru the epidurals and pt and anything my drs say . so im open to any help please advise , I dont want to go back to pills as they have wrecked my life Thanks for reading this and God Bless

I am day .. Idk.. Last pill Jan 1st. I have no idea todays date. My mouth is so dry! No matter how much I drink.

I was hearing the music while using. I told my psych, and he said normal, that many people, including him, had experienced.. I was rather relieved!
Metallic taste, are you on other meds? Lunesta does that.

I just went back and read the symptoms that were driving me crazy 7 days in to not taking ANY pills.  Keeping in mind I had been on subutex this first 7 days (also used as a harm reduction med like methadone) at the time.  My journal says:  major cotton mouth, zero appetitie, hard to chew food of any kind, water tastes like metal, eyes half mast, fainty/weak all the time, nerve spasms BAD, sweats, tremors and hearing music in my ears when there wasn't any ON!!  I have had a very weird taste (and smell) going on w/ me for some time.  It is starting to get better now, but all those things seem to be our body's way of reacting to an opiate much stronger than hydros.
I didn't do much of anything "right" my first 28 days, but wanted to share this w/ you since you are having some of the same issues on methadone.

I, too, have a history of  major back stuff.....but am determined to continue researching and learning from others ways to deal w/the pain w/o a narcotic medication.  Remember, too, (INITIALLY) the rebound pain will definitely intensify.....mine was twice as bad for awhile.....but I promise you it really does get better once your pain paths to your brain start clearing and healing.  Hang in there.....methadone is a strong opiate compared to the Norco/hydros......the sooner you can work out a wean down plan and start healing....the better you will feel.  Have to go thru the nasties to get to the goodies.
Blessings to you~

My dry mouth of methadone is horrible. I have to keep a glass of water next to my bed and I wake up at least 4-5 times and have to drink because my mouth is srivled up dry. I would be careful with it too because dry mouth is what causes tooth decay and is why people sometimes say it rots your teeth. It really isnt the methadone that is rotting your teeth its the dry mouth. Ur saliva is your teeths natural defense and without that its unprotected. They make a mouth wash called biotene that is pretty good the prob is it only works for a little bit and u gotta swish again. And its very expensive. But I have never heard of any weird tastes thats def not normal. Its not a metallic taste right? Describe the taste to us a little better and maybe someone can help.

Dry mouth, yes, weird taste, no. It took a long time for me to realize that I wasn't eating enough or drinking enough water. Methadone suppresses all sensations, including thirst and hunger. I could work for days and not remember to take care of myself.

I've been doing chiropractics, hot tub, massage, and really paying attention to my nutrition. I also stretch and try to strengthen my back to support it by muscle, rather than bones. I still hurt, but found that I was experiencing a lot of rebound pain from the opiate detox as well.

I will warn you, the methadone will stop helping eventually, unless you keep going up and up in dosage, just like the norcos, but 100 times worse detox. I wouldn't use methadone for pain management, knowing what I know now. Keep searching, that's how we find our way. There is a way.

I would think that dry mouth would be very common for narcotic drugs......any of them.  Also, you're probably grinding your teeth, causing them to wear down.  That's another problem with narcotics or really any controlled med.  I have always done that when I was taking pills.

The way to beat the pain is to talk to a doctor about non-narcotic alternatives.  You could try massage, therapy, anti-inflammatories......there are definitely alternatives to methadone.  I have a broken vertebrae in my back and some other stuff, and I don't take anything controlled for almost three years now.  So.......it can be done! : )  You just have to make up your mind and DO IT no matter what!
