clonidine and opiate withdrawal

by deceasedwithin, Aug 01, 2009 02:07PM
ive been on and off this board for quite a while now, quitting and relapsing. i tried suboxone which helped but then the withdrawals from that were worse than the oxycontin. i blew two 80s yesterday after a breakup with my boyfriend and today i ran out of everything. so i guess i am forced to detox which is the best thing i can do for myself. i was given clonidine .01mgs from a friend and that is all i have. will this drug be enough to help me endure the withdrawals so that i wont give in? i know its willpower and such but the anxiety literally scares the living hell out of me. im about to take my first pill now...

Ive always liked to use clonidine when I was detoxing, it did help relax me and lessen some of jittery, nervous energy. Hopefully the clonidine helps ease some of the symptoms, I would also get some immodium, some short of short term sleeping aid and lots of fluids. The vitamins and amino acids can really help with getting some energy, but thats all up to you. I wish you the best of luck, you can do this!

i was prescribed the clonidine when i went to the DR. for my  W/D's. it worked great! just dont take it early in the day, it put me out like a light!! i made the mistake of taking it before work, and i almost fell asleep here.  before bed is a good time, and it usually lasts throughout the next day to with all the w/d symptoms.  Good luck.

I'm glad you've made your way back here to the forums; You said you were a longtime member here, but haven't been on in a while or whatever. I'm crossing my fingers for you as well, but hope you know what you're taking even though you haven't gone to your PCP about the clonodine. I hope that all goes well for you, and look forward to possibly getting to know you more. Keep posting here and let us know how everything pans out for you!

thank you, i know I'm taking a risk without seeing a Dr. and honestly its because i don't have insurance. i have been trying to research everything as much as possible instead of just taking it carelessly
