I just want to let you know that is a huge step your taking, if it is in your heart to quit then you have the power to do it! I have been there!!! and to be honest the only thing that got me through it was the LORD! I prayed for strength and it came! I have been clean for over a year now and I had used for over 15years!! I tried to stay away from triggers, people places and things that would make me vulnerable. That helped me also.  I'll pray for you and I hope you gain the strength you need to overcome! Believe me if I can do it, you can do it!! Good luck and may GOD bless you!!

get the book End Your Addiction Now, by Charles Gant.  chapter 5 has a number of short questionnaires that will tell you what combo of amino acids and nutrients you need.

the advice that "your mind is no longer yours for some time," makes me think of the very real fat that active addiction literally hijacks the addict's brain.  Time mag had a great article on addiction that noted:"One important discovery: evidence is building to support the 90-day rehabilitation model, which was stumbled upon by AA (new members are advised to attend a meeting a day for the first 90 days) and is the duration of a typical stint in a drug-treatment program. It turns out that this is just about how long it takes for the brain to reset itself and shake off the immediate influence of a drug. Researchers at Yale University have documented what they call the sleeper effect--a gradual re-engaging of proper decision making and analytical functions in the brain's prefrontal cortex--after an addict has abstained for at least 90 days."

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1640436-1,00.html

i vividly experienced that "reset" and for me it happened right at 90 days.  i wasn't expecting anything, but quite suddenly everything was different.  my brain was working differently and i felt completely different.  i whispered out loud to myself "oh my god, THIS is how i need to be if i'm going to stay clean."

i have found that prayer works and is very important to recovery.  no one told me who or what i needed to pray to, only that i needed to pray to my "own conception of God," whatever that might be.

you can do this.  i did this and if i can do it, anyone can do it.

don't change your clean date, no matter what.

Hooked on a narcotic? A vaccine that fights pre-established chemical dependency might be accessible in the near future, reports the New York Times. Chemist Dr. Kim Janda of Scripps Research Institute might have found an ingenious way of breaking the routine of addiction to such substances as nicotine, heroin, cocaine and more. Article resource: Anti-addiction vaccine currently in development
