cocaine withdrawal

by kayotjr, Nov 20, 2008 08:18AM
My friend needs to stop using Cocaine and will try but I live with this person and do not know what to expect should he be sincere in stopping the use of Cocaine.  I understand that this is his problem and I cannot make him do something that he doesn't does not want to do.  I have been in Al-Anon for over 40 years but have never dealt with Cocaine.

cocaine is an addiction just like everything else,as far as w/d i myself have never experienced cocaine w/d but i am sure there are some people here who can helpyou with that all i do know is the only way your friend will get clean is if he really wants to,no matter how much you want it for him he has to want it for himself but being in Al-Anon you are well aware of that i hope he knows how lucky he is to have a friend like you who seems to care so much good luck to both of you and keep posting there are really good people here and a lot of support you have come to the right place

I have been clean from cocaine almost a year now. I quit cold turkey and the worst part of withdrawls was just feeling really down and depressed. I was extremely tired, and even more irritable. One day i just wanted to be left alone, and the very next day i just wanted to be with somebody who would comfort me. Nothing tasted the same. No music sounded good. No movie was funny. Everything was just blah.

hi and welcome to the forum....as far as physical w/ds there are not any.  the mental part is a beast.  i was on coke heavily for 5 years and now have 5 years clean...it was 3 months or so before i could function without thinking of using...i had used everyday all day and night....i slept for the first week...and gained 30 lbs the first month...you literally destroy your body on that cr@p.  i was irratable and did not want to go anywhere or do anything for about 6 weeks.  i would really suggest some type of aftercare....coke has a very high rate of relapse....i myself had a support group in my church i met with 2 times a week and attended some NA meetings as well as church...he can do it...in my journals i have a cravings list...its things you can do to stop the cravings before they become full blown...also i have a poem about coke print it for your frien.  good luck, if i can help you or him please let me know.
