cold turkey

Hi,

After reading almost every post on this forum, I have decided to go cold turkey. I don't have time or money to get much help. I only hope I don't lose anytime from work. I also don't have any money to be spending on pills-part of me wishes I did. Deep down in my heart I knew this day would come. I will use the many suggestions I have seen to help make this easier and pray to God.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Until I found this forum I had no idea about many things. The most important one being is the  strength of pills I have been taking. What I would like to do is taper off without my boyfriend knowing. That way he won't have the pills to use to manipulate me with. He just called and said he was at the track looking for pills. I can't believe he thinks I'm that stupid to believe that. It would be nice to wake up one day and not think of taking a pill first thing.

You do what YOU think will work for you. Taper is one option but I chose c/t also.  I was never able to taper....would keep borrowing from the next dose and before I knew it the pills were gone.I wanted to get it behind me and move on. C/T will not kill you (unless you are talking about benzos) It is very uncomfortable but with the help of some of the above mentioned drugs (clonidine/xanax) short term, you should get through this.  The toughest part is recovery. You do need an aftercare plan be it NA/AA or an addiction counselor...whatever works for you. Relapse is very high due to lack of a good aftercare plan....we have a disease and we need to stay on top of it even after we are clean. Good Luck Dove....you are heading down the right path!
Peace!

I asked him last night how strong the pills were, I didn't even know. He said 15mgs. I at about 4 a day and I snort them.

I would prefer to wean myself off but I'm running out of money and he says he can't get any without it. The money I give him doesn't all go for pills but I'm sure goes to the track instead. At least thats one problem I don't have (gambling).

You really should not try and go cold turkey.. The chances for relapse are so high it's really a waste of your time to put yourself through suck hell. I think you should approach the MD that's been writing for your oxycodone and tell him what your intentions are. He will be able to write you or even call you in the comfort medications a person needs to detox safely at home. Such as clonidine and something for the anxiety like Valium or Librium and definitely some quinine for the leg
cramps that are going to drive your crazy and deprive you of sleep, you should load up on Imodium not the generic. You will find it 10 times easier if you get the above meds, otherwise you will be so sick and craving so badly. You are suffering from a chronic treatable disease of the brain. Like any treatable disease like diabetes or high blood pressure you need medical management for at least the next 10 days. Please don't go it alone. Good Luck Dove------NOAH

How many pills a day?  Is there any way you can wean off of them instead of stopping cold turkey?  If you need to talk or have any questions, please let me know.  I'll do whatever I can.  Many others here will support you, also.  Stay with us and let us help you through, okay?

Best luck to you.
