coming off oxycodone

I have absolutely no idea what dosages people are talking about on this sight. But, I have been on 20 times 5 mg oxy a day (600 pills a month) for post surgery cervical neck fusions (3) in the last 4 years.  Only since my last fusion in October, 2012, has my dosage been increased to my present level, so I have been on this level of opiates for just under 3 months.  I don't want to do anymore! I am tired of feeling like the walking dead so I would much rather endure the pain than endure the haze. These past 2 days I have gone from 20 pills to 10, to 8, to 6 a day (that's today, Sunday, January 27th, 2013.  I have not had any other meds but would sure like something to take the edge and sweats - hot and cold - off.  I have always thought that I am bigger than the meds, but tonight I feel like I'm really losing it. I actually feel suicidal which is so not me!!! I am a 67 year old, in fairly good physical shape otherwise.  But I totally hate the way I'm feeling right now. Would someone please tell me how long this cold turkey feeling will go on? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum I agree with Pat and her suggestions
Sleep is hard Hope you were able to get some, I was also on the same amount as your were taking.
Have you talked to your doctor about helping you reduce and taper?
Sleep was one of the hardest physical symptoms and the anxiety. I Took many walks and many hot baths with epson salt, It does help especially the walks helps clear your head and get blood going get those endorphins going. I Know exercise is probably the last thing you want to do but it does help and drink plenty of fluids flush those toxins out.
Keep posting and you are not alone and you can do this Hang in there!

UGH! The crazy a@! dreams. I am on day 2 and that plus just being plain ole tired hhas neen th worst.. But I did stock up with the ingredients from the Thomas recipe and the mellatonin helped with the sleep. B6 in the morning along with St.jOHNS WORT for the energy and mood thing is really helping. I'm not big on the "natural' pills thing. Funny coming from someone who had no problem poppin hydro's to get out of bed! HA! But I am glad I got them ....I think they're helping alot. So if u can...go out an get Mellatonin for tonight. God bless and Good luck!!! You are on your way!! YAAAAA!!!

You are welcome and good luck with the sleep.  It is hard to get when we are detoxing.  The dreams are bad too but get any sleep you can, when you can.
Don't hesitate to post if you have any other questions or just need support.

Thanks Pat. That was quick. I know I am not on a high dose that I have been on for a long time, but, it does not detract from this s...ty feeling.  I will continue as you suggest and thanks again. Hopefully I will now go to sleep and not have any nasty dreams that I seem to be having these past couple of nights.

Hi lansur and welcome to the forum.
I was taking about the same amount as you for about 5 years.
You have done an extremely fast taper and that is why you are feeling so bad.  You should either go cold turkey or slowly reduce your intake over a long period of time.
I found that the withdrawals were bad for 3 to 4 days from the time of the LAST pill I took.  You are probably feeling pretty bad already.

If you do decide to go cold turkey, I would suggest that you get some imodium as it helps with bathroom issues as well as other withdrawal symptoms.  Drink lots of fluids. I drank a ton of gatorade, boosts or ensures or carnation instant breakfasts.  It's really important to stay hydrated.
The sweats are a big part of the withdrawal.  Take lots of baths or showers.  It will help.
Try and eat crackers, bananas, soups or anything you can as you will feel very energy deprived.  A good B vitamin helps too.
Keep posting and many here can help you through this.
