coming off oxy's

coming off oxy's

OK, last year I had back surgery succesfully however, I had nerve damage, within 2 day's post op I had been referred to pain management. From Vicodin 1-2 prn I was put on oxy 40mg tid, lyrica 150mg bid, dilaudid 8mg prn, MSR 5 prn and dalmane 60mg at night. Needless to say I was stupd enough to take them and within 3 weeks I attempted to stop and had actually thought I was in hell. I have since moved back to the UK and my Dr here was appauled at the amount of drugs used. He weaned me of lyrica, MSR and dilaudid in 4 weeks. I am down to oxycontin 10mg bid and Dalmane 30mg at night. However he did start me on amytriptoline 20mg at night which actually made me pain free for the first time in months.
I have gone through severe depression, restless legs each time my dosage has been lowered and all the other ugly stuff.  What really anger's me is that I was whacked on such big doses so quickly. It completely ruined my life and made me an addict. I blame myself for taking the drug's but when you have pain you will take anything.
Anyway, as I said I am still on Oxy ad Dalmane and am not looking forward to that at all

I have a lot of things I can add, as well as some advice, bt I'd like to ask if you think you're an addict or just dependent on the medication? There are big differences in the two, and your future plans are quite different depending on the answer.

I would say I am chemically dependent. As I never crave the drug when weaning, merely suffer the symptoms of them being weaned.

Is Suboxone commonly prescribed in the UK? I think you could be a perfect candidate for a short term Suboxone detox. I did it once with a 17 day schedule and had very little to no withdrawals. You also may want to post something on the pain management forum and ask for suggestions.

My surgeon here says after my MRI that my nerves will heal eventually. They had been damaged by the disc herniation and I will hopefully be off oxy within 8 weeks. The Dalmane will take longer as my Dr here say's that I would find it hard to sleep with no Dlmane and no oxy. I was shocked at how fast the pain went after one dose of amytriptoline, I have no pain for the first time in months. I am so mad that I was put on such doses so quickly, it was as though they just wanted to shut me up, I wouldnt mind but the pain was still as bad.
