Tramadol/ultram/ultracet (ultracet having tylenol in it) is habit-forming and not recommended for people with prior addictions...it was originally advertised as not being habit forming but it affects the same receptors as narcotics do...tram also has an antidepressant componenet which makes wd even more difficult due to the depression factor during detox...it is supposedly not "as" habit forming as other narcotics like hydrocodone or oxycodone if taken as prescribed...but the drug is often abused and therefore habitforming..and can be at the recommended dose as well if addiction is a problem...my friend did this as well...stopped hydros and is on tramadol..she is taking 10-15 a day..probably more as this is what she admits to taking..and is very addicted to it....very little pain relief for the problems they can cause...be safe
Well, the Ultram is still a narcotic, but with (supposedly) less of a high, and the same amount of pain relief. But just because there's less of a high, doesn't mean there won't be withdrawls. ALL opiates have a chance for physical dependency, and anyone who tells you different is either lying to you or isn't familiar with what they are prescribing. Either way, that's scary. If you have insurance or can afford it, please get a second opinion. ULTRAM IS AN OPIOID. Best of luck to you, KLM_81
Tramadol can be highly addictive! Scaredmommie is absolutely right. They are very hard to get off of. They are a synthetic opiate.
You did not say on either of your posts if you were abusing the Rx? Are you taking more than prescribed?
My spine doctor gave me the Tramadol a couple years ago to take for back pain. However, 2 tablets did NOT work for me and so I took 3 tablets. I became extremely euphoric, more than I ever did with Lortab. I stopped them immediately because I was afraid of becoming addicted. Unfortunately, I ended up taking Lortab for way too long and ended up with that addiction. I'm not sure if one is worse than the other, but I've heard Tramadol addiction is worse. So, please be very careful. For some reason, some doctors do not understand how Tramadol can be addicting.
from what i now of it, it is a very very weak narcotic. and from being here and reading posts they are very hard to get off of and even more dangeruos to get of off then loratbs. now i have never been on them my DOC was percs, so i really know nothing about them but from what i have read here they are pretty bad to come off of. so please be careful, and someone who knows more should be posting soon. wish you luck.
